The Shaws of Easter Lair are the senior armigerous family of the Shaws of Crathienaird, a vigorous sept or branch of the Scottish Highland Clan Shaw that settled firstly in the Balmoral area of Aberdeenshire at Crathienaird in 1633.
Members of the Shaw clan in Glen Shee and Glen Isla enthusiastically contributed their skills as warriors in the Stuart Jacobite Risings against the Hanoverian Governments of both King George I and II.
During the less turbulent periods of Highland history, the Glen Shee and Glen Isla Shaws were farmers, mercenaries and both cattle drovers and rustlers.

Having passed Bridge of Cally, North of Blairgowrie, the ascent of Glen Shee towards Braemar and Deeside begins.
Glen Shee (Gleann Sith, the Fairy Glen), has a strong tradition of the Fingalians whose fighting capacity and exploits of adventurous courage are still spoken of in Highland history.
It is said the Fingalian warriors hunted the wild boar when it roamed in upper Glen Shee and to this day are places bearing names associated with the huntings: a certain small loch is called Loch an Tuirc, the Boar’s loch, Tobar nam Fiann, Well of the Fingalians, etc.

The available walks can be split into three different areas: there are the Glen Shee hills to the south, the hills around Lochnagar and Glen Muick to the South-East and the Cairngorm summits to the north.
Glen Muick also shows off some good cliffs, some of which provide the most difficult rock climbs in the Cairngorms.
The Glen Shee hills are characteristically heathery and more rounded, but they do have to advantage of ease of access and therefore provide easy day hikes.
