The Feaud of Glencairn and Eglinton
The Earl of Eglintoun, Lord Semple and their said friends are required to come Edinburg on 14th March next, and the Earl of Glencairn and his friends on Wednesday 15th March; and, at their coming to the burgh, they are to repair to their lodgings, and remain there till sent for by the Council.
It will be remembered that the presence of the Earl of Eglinton in Langshaw was made known to the Cuninghames by the Lady of the house, and that the fluttering of a tablecloth, waved either by her own hands or by those of her sympathetic maid, was the signal for doom.
He was the direct murderer of the chief of the Montgomeries, and the Master of Montgomerie took reprisal in his case into his own hands.

On the death of the eighth earl, his estates and title were of course forfeited, but Charles II, in 1663, sensible of the great services of Lord Lorn, and of the injustice with which he had been treated, restored to him the estates and the title of Earl of Argyll.
Archibald, fifth Earl of Argyll, was educated under the direction of Mr John Douglas, his father's domestic chaplain, and the first Protestant Archbishop of St Andrews, and distinguished himself as one of the most able among the Lords of the Congregation.

CUNNINGHAM, ALEXANDER, fifth earl of Glencairn, was the son and successor of William the fourth.
The reformer was afterwards received by the earl at his house of Finlayston, where the sacrament of the Lord’s supper was dispensed, according to the forms of the church of Geneva, to his lordship, his tenantry, and friends.
It was of this letter that the queen said, in handing it afterwards to archbishop Beaton, "Please you, my lord, to read a pasquil." The earl of Glencairn was one of those eminent persons who, in 1557, associated themselves in a covenant, for the purpose of promoting the establishment of the reformed religion in Scotland.

So important was the Earl to Burns that the poet wrote a poignant lament at his patrons' passing called "Lament for James Cunningham, 14th Earl of Glencairn." The whole poem relates the sadness and desolation the poet felt at his benefactor's death.

 HOUSE OF LINE
446- 447; The Scots Peerage: Cunningham, Earl of Glencairn, pp.
In fact, the House of Boyd Society that exists today, which is one of the major and larger historical clans or families in Scotland that held noble titles and lands, includes the Line(s) families as septs, or junior allied families, and entitles them to benefits of membership in their society based on this relationship.
Instead of being the grandson of the Laird of Roxburgh, the other versions state he is the grandson of the Laird of Foulis, the Earl of Forbes, or Earl of Murray, which indicates that the original Tam might have had some sort of noble blood in him.

 Welcome to West Belfast
Already part of the Loyalist perspective on Belfast's political development is provided by the military exhibition at the award-winning Fernhill House Museum in Glencairn, but there is ample scope for other interpretations of West Belfast.
West Belfast's reputation creates a curiosity factor which can be harnessed by providing organised tours of its murals, and explanations of its political ideologies.
Contrary to its image, and despite years of neglect and lack of investment, West Belfast is a vibrant and lively place, rich in tradition, heritage and culture, and boasting strong community networks and a self-help ethos.
