Glenorchy is one of the five city councils that make up the greater Hobart area of Tasmania, with a population of approximately 50,000.
The City of Glenorchy spans the area along the Derwent River, from just north of the Queens Domain in the south, to the Bridgewater Causeway in the north, and extends west as far as the foothills of Mount Wellington.
Some of the artists that have performed in Glenorchy include Dire Straits, Elton John, and John Farnham.

Tasmania was once inhabited only by an indigenous population, the Tasmanian Aborigines, and evidence indicates their presence in the territory, later to become an island, at least 35,000 years ago (rising sea levels cut Tasmania off from mainland Australia about 10,000 years ago).
Tasmania is a rugged island of temperate climate, and was considered so similar in some ways to pre-industrial England that it was referred to by some English colonists as 'a Southern England'.
Tasmania's rail network consists of narrow gauge lines to all four major population centers and to mining or forestry operations on the west coast and north-west.

He played for Glenorchy for nine seasons and retired at the end of 1968.
He captained Glenorchy from 1965 to 1968 and lead Tasmania against Victoria in 1967, losing by just 17 points to the powerful "Big V." Also amongst his achievements is the Weller Arnold medal in 1967.

Apart from teaching, Meston's other main interests were in the anthropology and history of Tasmania.
His two biggest contributions to Tasmanian anthropology were the discovery of rock carvings in Mount Cameron West (1933) and the large-scale shell midden excavation in South Cave, Rocky Cape.

Tree months after the death of Dean Ted Lloyd, the Administrator of the Church of the Apostles, I was appointed as Parish Priest of Glenorchy where I worked with two priests during my 7 years as Parish Priest.
