 Clockwork Wonders: Cyran Gliding Boots
Gliding boots use ball bearings, small wheels, and a simple braking system to add speed and smooth motion to the wearer's steps, without becoming as difficult to control as ice skates or similar items.
As a result, gliding boots allow the wearer to make a 10 ft. adjustment in combat as a free action rather than a 5 ft. adjustment; this adjustment follows all the rules for the normal 5 ft. adjustment, and can be used 3 times/day.
The boots must be able to glide for this bonus to apply; they don't work in heavy brush or in marshy ground, but are fine on streets, packed mud trails, boardwalks, stone dungeon corridors, and so forth.

Gliding is in some senses a modified form of parachuting, in which lift forces are produced by an airfoil-type membrane, so most gliders could also be considered part-time parachuters.
You might think gliding is a good first step toward powered flight, but in fact we know of only one group (bats) that seems to have evolved from gliding ancestors, because bats retain many features of gliders.

 About Gliding
Unless the pilot can find upcurrents of air, he can only glide steadily downwards until the ground is reached and he has to land.
Whether the pilot is gliding down or soaring, he must always fly the glider at a speed which will enable the wings to provide enough lift to support it.
Gliders are designed to have flat gliding angles, thatis, they will travel a long way for little loss of height.

2.9.2005 - Discovery of gliding ants shows wingless flight has arisen throughout the animal kingdom
Gliding ants — the only wingless insects known to actively direct their fall — were first observed last year outside Iquitos, Peru, by insect ecologist Stephen P. Yanoviak of UTMB.
While perched 100 feet up in the rainforest canopy waiting for mosquitoes to alight and feed on his blood, Yanoviak casually brushed off a few dozen ants that were attacking him and noticed their uncanny ability to land on the tree's trunk and climb back to the very spot from which they'd fallen.
He and Dudley are applying for grants to do a more systematic survey to see how common gliding is among the hundreds of species of canopy ants as well as other insects that live in the trees, and to explore the biomechanics of their gliding.
