Average global surface temperatures, degrees C. The zero line is set to the average for the period 1961-1990.
IPCC cites: a rising mean global surface temperature, glacier retreat, a decline in winter snow cover, a 40% decline in arctic summer sea-ice thickness, an increase in extreme weather events, and a rise of 0.1 - 0.2 meters in sea level.

Global Warming and the Anti-Technology Movement: Global warming is the Rosetta stone of the anti-West, anti-technology, anti-globalization movement.
Global warming hot air: The global warming scare was played up by the media when the National Academy of Sciences issued a report on June 6 that said the earth's temperature is rising, mainly because of human actions, and that this could cause drastic climatic changes.
Recent Warming is Not Historically Unique: The pattern of frequent and rapid changes in climate throughout the Holocene indicates that the warming of the last 100 years is not a unique event and is thus not an indication of human impact on the climate, as is frequently claimed.

Greg Mankiw's Blog: Sunstein on Global Warming
I would not necessarily deny that global warming is happening, nor that human beings might be contributing to it to some extent; I just wish that the public debate on the matter included a rational discussion of the uncertanties involved in the climate projections and a rigorous cost-benefit analysis.
Global warming is primarily caused by manmade emissions.
My concern is simply that topics like global warming get so easily tangled in ideological rhetoric, on both sides, that in many cases the public is left either confused or disinterested (if they don't already have a pre-determined position) in the debate.

'Alarmist' Global Warming Claims Unfounded Says Climatolgist
Michaels, author of the book Satanic Gasses: Clearing the Air about Global Warming and an environmental sciences professor at the University of Virginia, was the featured speaker at a luncheon sponsored by the Cato Institute on Friday.
Michaels called the persistent belief in catastrophic global warming "a religion" and said that is why he has faced so much opposition to his scientific work.
Michaels outlined three periods of atmospheric change in the last 100 years of U.S. history, noting a warming in the first part of the 20th century, a cooling in the middle part of the century and a warming in the latter part of the century.

This is a global issue, but the government needs to make reducing greenhouse gases one of its top New Year's resolutions," Baker said.

Sorry, No Global Warming Catastrophe Looming
Alarmist from the Environmental Protection Agency and the U. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change predicts the fabled warming would cause an increase in deaths in urban areas.
A widely cited 1999 study suggested that temperatures were relatively flat for the past millennium -- until the rapid growth in the release of carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels.
Global warming is hardly the mother of all environmental catastrophes as some environmentalists and members of the media have depicted.

Global warming controversy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The global warming controversy is an ongoing dispute about the effects of humans on global climate (Anthropogenic global warming, AGW) and about what policies might be implemented to try to avoid possible undesirable effects that may occur in the future.
Some opponents of global warming theory give more weight to data such as paleoclimatic studies, temperature measurements made from weather balloons, and satellites which they claim show less warming than surface land and sea records, though early balloon records have been shown to be possibly erroneous due to mechanical design flaws in the sensors.
Global warming skeptics sometimes dispute the claim that (or relevance of) a consensus of scientists supports the view of global warming presented by the IPCC, and say that not even all the IPCC authors support the reports.

 Global Warming
The report found, "Global warming accounted for around half of the extra hurricane-fueling warmth in the waters of the tropical North Atlantic in 2005, while natural cycles were only a minor factor." The 2005 North Atlantic hurricane season was the most active in recorded history, and caused an unprecedented level of damage.
In the face of strong scientific consensus on the dangers and sources of global warming, many members of the Bush administration and the right wing continue to insist it is all part of a harmless natural process.
Recently, the most extensive scientific modeling on global warming ever conducted "found that global temperatures could rise by up to 11°C (19°F) if emissions of carbon dioxide continue unabated." That is more than five times the increase the Task Force determined could have severe impacts in the form of flooding and extreme weather events.

Science Verifies Crichton's State of Fear Assertions - by James M. Taylor - The Heartland Institute
Unlike the alarmists, who routinely fail to scientifically document such claims as "the polar ice caps are melting," "sea levels are rising," or "hurricanes and other catastrophic weather events are becoming more frequent," Crichton cites specific scientific studies to back up each indictment of alarmist global warming theory presented in State of Fear.
What is particularly troubling to alarmists is that they have long considered Antarctica's dry, cold interior--the very part of the continent that is cooling the most--to be a bellwether of climate change.
Global warming alarmists freely proclaim Kyoto alone will have little impact on climate and is only a small "first step" along their desired path of energy suppression.

What is more alarming than what scientists genuinely know about global warming is that a media outlet as influential as the AP would run a wire story this faulty, and that so many news editors would be gullible enough to run it.

Crosswalk.com - Environmentalists Blame East Coast Hurricane on 'Global Warming'
Citing "clear connections" that global warming and Hurricane Isabel are inter-related, Worldwatch stated, "Heat in the atmosphere is the fuel that leads to stormy weather, and meteorological studies indicate that rising temperatures will tend to increase the frequency and intensity of extreme storms, particularly the violent thunderstorms that occur in some parts of the world."
Michaels, who is the author of the book Satanic Gasses: Clearing the Air About Global Warming and an environmental sciences professor at the University of Virginia, believes the Worldwatch Institute should have known better than to send out a press release attempting to link global warming with a present-day hurricane.
In February, environmentalists claimed the record-breaking Northeast blizzard was "consistent" with global warming, and last year, they blamed the spread of the West Nile Virus on global warming.

Climatologist Debunks 'Alarmist' Claims of Global Warming   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
WASHINGTON — Climatologist Patrick J. Michaels says fears of catastrophic global warming are scientifically unfounded and "alarmist." Any climate change that does occur would not affect Earth or its inhabitants in any significant way, he said.
He said he expected a negligible warm-up and pointed to the past 100 years as proof that any effects of potential increased global temperatures would be negligible.
Chris Horner, a senior fellow at the free-market environmental think tank Competitive Enterprise Institute, attended the luncheon and pointed to the recent scientific indications that the planet Pluto is warming despite moving away from the sun.

Lewis’s report is a hard-hitting summary of a longer critique of An Inconvenient Truth which will be published by CEI later this fall.
