Topic: Global warming theory

NCPA - BA #299 - The Collapsing Scientific Cornerstones of Global Warming Theory
Hansen and other proponents of the theory that humans are causing a dangerous change in the earth's climate base their belief on several sets of data (e.g., temperatures, greenhouse gas levels and climate phenomena).
Global warming theory rests on three cornerstones: climate models, scientific analyses of past and present climate data and trends, and the assertion that increases in greenhouse gases drive up global temperatures.
While the theory of global warming still may be correct, new evidence chipping away at its cornerstones should preclude precipitous, costly and perhaps unnecessary government actions.

  Common sense on global warming
Then, if the global warming movement does not pass the smell test, we shall build upon scientific facts that are available to a bright college freshman to evaluate whether the global warming theory is likely to be valid.
Global warming theory holds that the increase of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air due to automobile exhaust and industry emissions has intensified the greenhouse effect and is causing global warming.
Warming trends are reported by some historians to be times of good harvests, relative prosperity, and relatively-stable weather in the northern hemisphere — contrary to the warnings of the global warming Cassandras.

National Policy Analysis #235: Behavior of World's Glaciers Fails to Prove Global Warming Theory - February 1999
Global warming theorists argue that examples of receding glaciers, primarily those located in the mid-latitude regions of the planet, provide evidence that climate change caused by human activities is underway.
Global warming theory proponents point to the retreat of glaciers in the mid-latitude regions of the planet - areas where the United States, Europe and Africa are located - as evidence of human-induced global warming.
Proponents of the global warming theory have been irresponsible in attempting to use glaciers as barometers of global temperatures since glaciers respond to a range of natural phenomena that have nothing to do with global temperature changes.

Global warming hot air: The global warming scare was played up by the media when the National Academy of Sciences issued a report on June 6 that said the earth's temperature is rising, mainly because of human actions, and that this could cause drastic climatic changes.
Recent Warming is Not Historically Unique: The pattern of frequent and rapid changes in climate throughout the Holocene indicates that the warming of the last 100 years is not a unique event and is thus not an indication of human impact on the climate, as is frequently claimed.

A Guide to the Global Warming Theory
Global warming, technically known as the "enhanced greenhouse effect," on the other hand, is a term used to describe temperature increases allegedly caused by humans over some period of time.
This means that global warming advocates are faced with the prospect of pursuing their theories although the data are suspect and do not support their assertions, or re-examining their theories in light of new satellite data, which show no warming trend where models predicted it should have occurred.
One theory is that as the temperature increases, because of a rise in greenhouse gases, the relative humidity drops and fewer clouds form.

Global Warming Theory Is Defective by George Crispin
The theory refers to these events as "extinction boundaries," periods in which cosmic rays from supernova produce short intense periods of radiation at the planet's surface followed by long, less intense periods (hundreds of years).
He suggests that modern Global Warming theory is only a few decades old, that billions have been spent without turning up a strong support for it and evidence has been building up to reject it.
Global warming (climate change) is natural, is not caused by man, and is something to be lived with.

 The Myth of Global Warming
Global warming theorists promise massive floods, severe droughts and famine due to the human pollution of the gas CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) (Bender 143).
The global warming theory states that human activity and the burning of fossil fuels increases the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere.
This theory was first examined by Svante Arrhenius in the 19th century who stated that the planet should warm 5 degrees centigrade for doubling concentration of CO2 (Winter).

Global warming theory posits that a rise in atmospheric CO2 will only cause a slight warming of the atmosphere, on the order of about 1 degree centigrade.
It concluded that emissions of sulfate aerosols from the burning of coal were offsetting the warming that should be caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Wallace Broecker, at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, argues that the MWP and the LIA were indeed global phenomena and that "The post-1860 natural warming was the most recent in a series of similar warmings spaced at roughly 1500-year intervals throughout the present interglacial, the Holocene." He reviews several scientific studies that confirm his arguments.

American Thinker Blog: UN retreating on global warming theory
The "science" underlying global warming theory is about to be recognized as a bit shakier by the UN itself, according to the UK Sunday Telegraph.
The organization still insists on little doubt that mankind is warming the planet, though there is still no explanation for all the huge variations in climate which occurred prior to man having the ability to operate on a sufficient scale to hypothesize such doomsday outcomes.
It also says that the overall human effect on global warming since the industrial revolution is less than had been thought, due to the unexpected levels of cooling caused by aerosol sprays, which reflect heat from the sun.

National Policy Analysis #206: Don't Like the Weather? Don't Blame it on Global Warming - August 1998
It means that global warming will be characterized by "more intense wet periods, more intense dry periods, more intense wet and dry periods, less intense wet periods, less intense dry periods, and less intense wet and dry periods." i Precisely how this is different than a world without human-enhanced global warming is unclear.
By global warming theory proponents' projections, this should not have been the case as greenhouse gas concentrations rose at a much faster pace from 1970 to 1987 than from 1947 to 1969.
The absence of increased tropical storm activity suggests that proponents of the global warming theory are either wrong when they say a planetary warming trend is underway, wrong when they suggest that human-induced global warming is leading to increased tropical storm activity or wrong on both counts.

Research casts doubt on global warming theory - theage.com.au
From the outset of the global warming debate in the late-1980s, environmentalists have said that temperatures were rising faster than before, leading some scientists to conclude that greenhouse gases from cars and power stations were causing record temperatures.
Until now, suggestions that the Middle Ages were as warm as the 21st century had been largely anecdotal and were often challenged by believers in man-made global warming.
Dr Brown said: "The conclusion that 20th century warming is not unusual relies on the assertion that the medieval warm period was a global phenomenon.

Global warming controversy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Some opponents of global warming theory give more weight to data such as paleoclimatic studies, temperature measurements made from weather balloons, and satellites which they claim show less warming than surface land and sea records, though early balloon records have been shown to be possibly erroneous due to mechanical design flaws in the sensors.
Global warming skeptics sometimes dispute the claim that (or relevance of) a consensus of scientists supports the view of global warming presented by the IPCC, and say that not even all the IPCC authors support the reports.
Proponents of the view that greenhouse gases have caused recent global warming respond that correlation is not a significant part of the evidence.

"This event is the best example of greenhouse warming in the geologic record, and for the first time we have been able to document the climate response on a relatively broad planetary scale, from the tropics to polar latitudes," Zachos said.
Many scientists believe that there is ample evidence manmade greenhouse gas emissions are causing the climate to warm, and if left unchecked, could cause rising sea levels, the melting of the polar icecaps, and a host of other environmental problems that could have far reaching impacts.

Power Line: Global Warming Theory Finally Disputed
The earth was warmer a thousand years ago than it is today, and as recently as the 1970's falling temperatures were causing environmentalists (in some cases, the same ones who now push global warming) to warn against a coming ice age--caused, of course, by man's activities.
The global warming advocates have never presented a sound scientific case, but in the political realm they have been virtually unchallenged.
Finally, however, some Republicans are starting to question the global warming theory publicly, as this Washington Times article recounts.

Cap’n Bob & the Damsel » Fireball Global Warming Theory
A new theory to explain global warming was revealed at a meeting at the University of Leicester (UK) and is being considered for publication in the journal “Science First Hand”.
According to Vladimir Shaidurov of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the apparent rise in average global temperature recorded by scientists over the last hundred years or so could be due to atmospheric changes that are not connected to human emissions of carbon dioxide from the burning of natural gas and oil.
This flies in the face of current global warming theories that blame a rise in temperature on rising carbon dioxide emissions since the start of the industrial revolution.

Hansen helped launch the whole global warming furor when he told Congress in 1988 that he was “99 percent sure.
Hansen now says the rate of global warming forcings peaked in 1980, and has since declined—leading to his new estimate of a mild warming of only 0.15 to 0.05 degrees C. per decade over the next several decades.
Strike two: Their predictions of more rapid warming in the atmosphere than on the earth’s surface is colliding with highly accurate readings from satellite and high-altitude weather balloons which show no atmospheric warming at all in the past 25 years—despite high greenhouse gas emissions.
