The hold may be termed 'closed' when partners face each other as in a slide* or a house around* and 'open' when partners face into the set as in a balance* or around the set as in the lead around* in the Fifth Figure of the Foraer a Neaintin jig set.
It is danced on the ball of the foot in the 'down' jig and to slides but should be danced much flatter to polkas, particularly by the gents.
Danced on count 4 of the preceding bar mainly in jigs and polkas, the ball of the foot briefly taps the floor and is lifted before being brought down again on count 1 of the step.

A dance with established steps and choreography, such as a folk or a ballroom dance (e.g., foxtrot, rumba, Virginia reel).
In dance, the ability to perform elements and principles of movement efficiently, safely, and accurately as appropriate to a dance style or genre (does not necessarily refer to traditional, formalized techniques for particular styles, such as ballet or Graham).

DANZON: A Cuban dance which starts slowly and gradually accelerates at certain melodic intervals between chorus and verse: the dancers stop to talk but remain on the floor until a certain beat tells them to resume their dances.
FRUG: The Frug was born from a dance called the Chicken which had a lateral body movement and was used as a change of pace during the Twist.
LATIN AMERICAN DANCES: These are essentially divided into two categories: 1) The authentic, traditional dances that fall lately into the domain of the folkloric, many of these dances vary from region-to-region, and generally involve a rhythmic character as opposed to a set of choreographic distinctions.

An extension of the AB choreographic structure: after the B phrase, the piece returns to an altered version of the A phrase, which can be manipulated by changing the tempo, rhythm, length, or dynamics of the movement, or by fragmenting, repeating, or changing the order of the sequence.

In dealing with traditional music and dance it should be noted that names of dances and dance rhythms often differ considerably, both among and within the various lands of origin.
Often the dance rhythm may be indicated in the title, such as vals, schottis, polka, polska, etc., but this may be of little help, even misleading, in determining the exact step or dance best suited to that particular rendition of the music.
Rundpolska: Generic Swedish term (rundpols in Norwegian) for polska-type dances which are danced roundabout the floor as in a waltz, rather than in place as in the generic slängpolska (fläckpolska).
