The highlight of a morning's birding on an oppressively hot Fourth of July was this White- faced Ibis (Plegadis chihi) which was found bathing with a group of Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus) in the freshwater pond at Cow Meadow Park in Freeport, NY.
Large numbers of Glossy Ibis circulate in small groups, coming to and from the pond from the surrounding marshes.

A Glossy Ibis was found by Guy McCaskie and Jon L. Dunn this morning, July 09, near the intersection of Sinclair and English Roads near Calipatria CA.
The Glossy Ibis spent most of the time preening and separated from the other birds while we were there.
It stood it's ground with all of the competition although it appeared to be learning a "new game" as it slowly and methodically moved along and starred at the ground.

I called several birders to let them know that there was an interesting ibis at the Bradley that warranted some attention due to a few apparent field marks.
There aren't too many records of inland Glossy's in the state (I had one at ENWR 8/4/00) and there weren't any for White-faced, so this would have been a first state record for the latter.
As a bonus, Bob Zaremba found an adult Glossy Ibis (rare in its own right as stated above) on Sunday, and later in morning it too joined the White-faced for a great comparison between not only the species but an immature and an adult bird.

April 1977 I saw an adult Glossy Ibis, Plegadis falcinellus near the Abu Dhabi sewage farm.
There have been only four previous records of the Glossy Ibis from the United Arab Emirates and I believe that this is the first record from the state of Abu Dhabi.
The Glossy Ibis was with a group of about 50 Curlew, some of which were of the orientalis sub-species with the extremely long bill.
