The Trust was formed in July 2000 to raise awareness of the impact of the gloucestershire warwickshire Railway and its forerunners on the local customs and traditions of the areas through which it passes.
The Trust focuses particularly on the railway's effects on the local heritage and is encouraging interest in local industrial and social history.
The new sections of line between Tyseley in the Birmingham suburbs and Bearley, north of Stratford and from Honeybourne to Cheltenham gave the GWR a new direct main line from the West Midlands to the West Country.

 The North Gloucestershire Railway
The North Gloucestershire Railway is a two foot gauge, predominantly steam hauled, railway which shares the site at Toddington with the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway (GWR???) (an impressive standard gauge preserved railway).
The line runs from the small station in one corner of the GWR car park to the railways headquarters and workshop, where the three coaches were built on ex war department (unsprung!) bogies.
The North Gloucestershire Railway Company was formed in 1985 to replace the Dowty Railway Preservation Society which had been involved in standard gauge preservation at Ashchurch since 1962.

 GWR Latest News
On Friday 4th June members of the Gloucestershire Environmental Trust and the Summerfield Trust visited the Railway to formally open the rebuilt north end of platform 1 at Racecourse station.
It’s originally from Whiteball Tunnel Box and was rescued by the Bristol Harbour Railway and subsequently acquired by S and T. B and S are progressing with the construction of a wooden floor around the frame.
To recognise the support of the Gloucestershire Environmental Trust and the Summerfield Charitable Trust in the reconstruction of platform 1 a ceremony in mid-May is being planned.

No 3205 was built at the Great Western Railway's works at Swindon in October 1946 at a cost of £6,632.
In early 1967, the loco was moved to the infant Severn Valley Railway and on, March 25 1967, worked the first train on that line.
In 1987, no 3205 was on the move again, this time to the West Somerset Railway, where, after repair, it was regularly rostored, working seven coach trains with ease.

The line was primarily built (1902-1907) to carry fruit from the highly productive farming areas both in the Cotswolds and the vale of Evesham and later performed as a passenger and secondary goods line until its closure.
In 1982 The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway was formed with the aim of one day restoring this line from Stratford Race Course to Cheltenham Race Course, back to its former glory.
Although originally double tracked throughout by the time the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway purchased the track bed, most of the buildings and all of the track had gone.

It IS Winchcombe, the first station south of Toddington on the preserved Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway.
I am also impressed, but would be even more if you had the wad of cotton waste in your hand, and been hanging onto a steam regulator, or heaving coal into a roaring firebox.
I have spoken to a few who have had the day driving, fireing, and guarding on the GWR and have had a never to be forgotten experience.

 Winchcombe - Heart of the Cotswolds
The Gloucestershire Warkwickshire Railway is in the process of re-building and restoring part of the former Great Western main line between Cheltenham and Stratford.
Garry Owen, Chairman of the GWR, said that it was not expected to open the extension before 2003 and that around £130,000 needs to be raised to complete the task.

The loan of Repton by the North York Moors railway, at a time when that line was suffering a severe shortage of Steam power, illustrates well the spirit of co-operation that exists between many of our Heritage Railways.

3822 has been running at the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway for the summer with no major problems, and will stay there until the end of the year, it will then return to Didcot.
3822 is at the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway and expected to be running on the 29/30th March and 12/13th April.
When we new pads were ordered for 7202 a set was ordered for a GWR tender, these were soaked in oil for 24 hours, then fitted to 3822, without missing a scheduled days operation.

The southern section of line from Broadway to Cheltenham is currently being rebuilt as a steam heritage railway by the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway therefore protecting it from development.
The SBRS was therefore formed in 1995 with the aim of safeguarding the through route and to study various alternatives to rebuild it.
It is planned that the sale process for the whole of the Long Marston Depot will start later in the year and it is important that the SBRS fights to save this unique site.
