In this part of Gloucestershire there are isolated hamlets along the rivers Windrush, Coln and Leach, at this point it is worth leaving your car to explore on foot, for here, off the beaten track there is always something fresh and special to be seen.

The group is an independent association founded in 2001 whose aim is to conserve, promote and celebrate traditional orchards in the county of Gloucestershire in the west of England.
His paper was delivered as a result of concern expressed about the fate of the old cider and perry trees by the Woolhope Club, which in 1875 had extended its objects to 'ascertain the correct names of the different kinds of cider, perry, cooking and desert apples and pears of Herefordshire and neighbouring districts'.
Perry pears differ from cider apples in that they are prone to deteriorate and rot rapidly after harvesting.

Most real cider is fermented to dryness and then sweetened afterwards - although there are some exceptions where the cider is naturally sweet.
Understandably (allowing for transport costs, etc.), not all the ciders are as cheap here as they are when bought direct from the producer, but prices are pretty reasonable nonetheless.
