Glozel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Glozel (46°02′N 3°36′E) is a hamlet in central France, part of the commune of Ferrières-sur-Sichon, Mayet de Montagne, Allier, some 17 km from Vichy.
Glass found at Glozel was dated spectrographically in the 1920s, and again in the 1990s at the Slowpoke Reactor at Toronto University by neutron activation analysis.
Thermoluminescence dating of Glozel pottery in 1974 confirmed that the pottery was not produced recently.

 The Money Master
Glozel had said that behind the front window on the third floor was where the sick woman lived.
The setting sun shining full on the window had roused the bird, and he began to pour out a flood of delicious melody which flowed on and on, causing the people in the street to stay their steps and look up.
Glozel's head was thrust out of the window three floors up, and she called to Jean Jacques to come quickly.

 The Glozel Stones
eventeen-year-old Emile Fradin was helping his grandfather on their family farm at Glozel, near Vichy in the heart of central France, when they stumbled – quite literally – across one of the most bitterly controversial mysteries of the century.
When samples of the mysterious artefacts from Glozel were duly subjected to TL tests, some were found to be centuries old and others were thousands of years old.
Glozel lies very close to the imposing ruins of the 13th century Château Montgilbert, built at the time of Templar ascendancy in France.

Dramatic story of the Glozel Tablets controversy
However, the discovery of the Glozel tablets on a farm near Vichy, France created a controversy that raged on for years.
The blue chip panel concluded that the Glozel discoveries were outright forgeries, manufactured and planted by the young French lad to be "accidentally" discovered.
The tests proved conclusively that the Glozel material was from the Magdalenian period.

The savants at Glozel, in the year 1927, were cannier, but one can't say that their delays boosted the glories of science.
Numerous artifacts were allegedly discovered by Emile Fradin in a pasture in the hamlet of Glozel, near Vichy, France; and, among these artifacts were tablets, which were marked with inscriptions.
Fradin opened the "Musée de Glozel" and put many of these objects upon display; and, archaeologists argued as to whether these artifacts were early evidence of alphabetic writing (possibly Neolithic and consisting of more than 130 characters) or frauds.

 A letter-for-letter comparison of alphabets
Let's assume the Glozel Tablets (now proven to be authentic, and infinitely older than the Phoenician) are the key to the puzzle.
Keep in mind that we are comparing several "western" (i.e., Azilian, Berber, Iberian, Numidian, Glozel) with the alphabet supposedly INVENTED by the Phoenicians.
Just as a footnote to all this riggamaroll about characters and alphabets (included because this also is a fact not widely known), the early Biblical Hebrews (from about the time of King Solomon until after the Babylonian captivity) used the Phoenician alphabet.

Alice Gerard has crossed the Atlantic a dozen times in the last ten years in her efforts to help solve the mystery of the controversial French site of Glozel, which has been called the "Dreyfus Affair" of archaeology.
Accusations of fraud made by members of the archaeological establishment have contributed to the stormy history of the site during the last 80 years.
"Glozel" describes the exhaustive attempts Alice and her husband have made, working with other researchers, to understand the tombs, the tablets covered with unknown writing, the bones engraved with reindeer, and the phallic idols found at the site.

Glozel has been called "the most controversial site of the 20th century." Artifacts discovered in 1924 on this isolated hillside in the center of France divided the archaeological world.
An attempt will be made to summarize the work of the previous conferences and to produce a summary of the last ten years of research at the site.
Glozel, Bones of Contention, published in 2005, is a survey of the history of the site from 1924 until today, as well as a summary of the scientific analyses and investigations made at Glozel.

Little tablets of clay with cryptic signs on them, vases carved in the form of death's heads, and other strange and ancient-looking objects dug up in a field in the French village of Glozel, have started off one of the most remarkable controversies in the history of science.
As a result of their observations, some French scientists now pronounce Glozel one of the most important archaeological discoveries of a hundred years.

In Glozel, a neolithic library was discovered with more than one hundred boards, with alphabetical characters - the first known alphabet if authentic.

The much-disputed Glozel writings play their part in the enigma; boiled down to essentials, the principal reason for the rejection by their critics, is that these writings would, if genuine, indicate the existence of a written alphabet thousands of years before man was supposed to have known such a thing even in dream.
Moreover and beyond, some letters, such as "b" do not occur in the Glozel alphabet, and the same omissions and undeciphered characters are found in inscriptions of the "cavemen" of Portugal and North Africa.
