Glue - Uncyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Glue (Gu) is a chemical element which, if it was one of the fake elements, would be underneath the bottom row of the periodic table where it could not be seen.
In its primary form, glue is a whitish translucent ooziferous liquid that, when solidifies, bonds to almost any porous solid; although it is also known to exist as a disgusting brownish syrup that doesn't stick to anything at all.
Glue is used primarily in the manufacture of Antarctica, unicorn horns, and macaroni and glitter-dust art work.

 Etherington & Roberts. Dictionary--glue
Animal glue is a protein derived from the simple hydrolysis of collagen, which is the principal protein constituent of animal hide, connective tissue and bones.
Hide glue, which is by far the superior of the two, yields a fairly neutral pH in solution, usually in the range of 6.5 to 7.4, although wider variations are possible.
One of the more interesting properties of animal glue solutions is their ability to pass from a liquid to a jelled state upon cooling, and then revert to the liquid state upon re-heating.

 Wounds and Miracle Glue
Midwives who have done a little research have found that the cyanoacrylate glue (Super Glue) sold over-the-counter and medical cyanoacrylate glues are apparently identical in composition and rumored to the be same as the tissue adhesive used extensively during the Vietnam War.
The first glue developed was methyl cyanoacrylate, which was studied extensively for its potential medical applications and was rejected due to its potential tissue toxicity such as inflammation or local foreign body reactions.
The glue in the study, octylcyanoacrylate, is new and still experimental but is expected to be approved for U.S. marketing as early as this summer, according to the University of Michigan.

New Scientist Breaking News - Frog glue repairs damaged cartilage
The frog glue is being developed by Australian researchers as an adhesive to treat hard-to-repair human knee injuries as well as a range of other medical applications.
Biological glues, such as those based on fibrin - the sticky component of blood - are too weak to fix parts of the body that have to withstand strong forces, such as an injured meniscal cartilage, found in the knee.
The set glue is also flexible and has a porous structure that should make it permeable to gas, nutrients and possibly even cells, which would encourage healing.

GLUE is a hard-hitting, frank, and often violent recount of the friendship between four boys growing up in Edinburgh's economically depressed scheme.
GLUE is written in Welsh's signature style of working-class Scottish dialogue, which makes the experience of reading this novel very rich and animated.
Overall, "Glue" is a grown-up book about growing up and the bonds of true friendship, the loyalties that hold it all together, and escape- from your parents, from your surroundings, from the rules that bound you, and from yourself.

Amazon.co.uk: Glue: Books   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
In fact, the glue of Welsh's book deals with the bonds that unite four boys growing up together in "the scheme", the "slum-clearance" flats of Edinburgh, whose optimistic construction in the 1970s give way to the poverty, unemployment and crime of the 1980s and 1990s.
Fans of Trainspotting will love Glue, even down to the brief appearance of Begbie and Renton, but others may feel that the novel is just more of the same, and that this performance finds Welsh stuck in a rut.
Glue is written almost entirely in an Edinburgh dialect, and although I am from Scotland myself and can confirm that Welsh writes the dialect brilliantly, it does not make for an easy read.

Fuller's figures do suggest that Latin America's glue market is not one they'd particularly enjoy giving up: Last year, the company reported that Latin American sales made up only 14 percent of their worldwide total, but accounted for more than 28 percent of earnings, a far better showing than U.S. sales.

Chemists Crack Secrets of Mussels' Super Glue
Researchers have discovered that iron in seawater is the key binding agent in the super-strong glues of the common blue mussel, Mytilus edulis.
In addition to using the knowledge to develop safer alternatives for surgical and household glues, the researchers are looking at how to combat the glue to prevent damage to shipping vessels and the accidental transport of invasive species, such as the zebra mussel that has ravaged the midwestern United States.
En route to crafting synthetic versions of the glue, the researchers discovered that bivalves extract the metal iron from the surrounding seawater and use it to join proteins together, linking the fibrous molecules into a strong, adhesive mesh.

Whether you are installing the floor yourself, or having it professionally installed, if you use the no-glue flooring, there will be a lot less chance for something to go wrong during the installation.
With glue together floors, you have to use straps to get the joints tight and for them stay that way until the glue dries.
Since there is no glue being used, most manufacturers that make this type of flooring use a very tight joint and locking system.
