Topic: Glyderau

In the News (Wed 15 Feb 12)

  The Glyderau
The Glyderau is a smaller range than the Carneddau, with only 11 peaks over 600m (5 of these are over 914m), however the walking on it is just as special.
The Glyderau are a fairly rocky range over all, with some grassy and boggy ground towards Capel Curig.
Navigation on the range is generally not as difficult as that on the Carneddau, however several of the walks described will not be going over obvious paths, and care will be needed (take a map and compass).

Walk 2650 - Tryfan, the Glyderau and Y Garn - Snowdonia Conwy - a walk from Walking Britain
Here’s a slightly taxing but entertaining walk over the Glyderau, one for a good day when the temptation to go onto the next summit is too much to resist.
The start is the roadside parking between Ogwen Cottage and the foot of Tryfan alongside the A5 where it runs close to Llyn Ogwen (Grid ref. SH 653602).
Quite the best in the Glyderau, Y Garn is magnificent, the views and “mountain feel” are unparalleled with the secretive Cwm Clyd adding to the magical atmosphere.

Guardian | When the wind blows
I knew the lower reaches of the Miners' Path above Penygwryd would be awash with drainage from Cwm Ffynnon and the southern flank of Glyder Fach, and so it proved to be.
Hopes of a magnificent vista across Tryfan's east face to the lift of the sepia slopes of the Carneddau beyond the Ogwen valley were confounded as swirls of chill, grey mist blew across.
The planned climb of the Bristly Ridge to the stony top of Glyder Fach was switched to a rapid return along the Miners' Path and over the soaking ridge-top.
