Gnadenhutten is a village located on the Tuscarawas River in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.
Gnadenhutten was founded as a settlement of Lenape Native Americans affiliated with the Moravian church.
This community remained neutral during the American Revolutionary War, but ninety-six of them were massacred in 1782 by American revolutionaries in retaliation for raids carried out by other bands.

Dave Fawcett, Gnadenhutten fire chief, said about 10 workers at U.S. Chemical & Plastics were eating lunch on one side of a warehouse when the explosion happened on the building’s opposite side around noon Thursday.

With the Revolutionary War over, the missionaries were told they had to leave this location because the Chippewas wanted their land back and the British were being asked to remove themselves from the fort at Detroit.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- U.S. Chemical & Plastics, Inc., doing business as Catalyst Systems in Gnadenhutten, Ohio, is facing $105,500 in fines proposed Friday by the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) following a January, 2003 explosion at the plant located approximately 30 miles south of Canton, Ohio.
An OSHA investigation into the plant explosion and structural fire resulted in charges that the company violated a variety of workplace safety and health regulations, principally that Catalyst Systems had not implemented effective controls for the drying, handling and packaging of benzoyl peroxide.
Catalyst Systems employs approximately 25 workers at the Gnadenhutten site, and was inspected by OSHA in 1989 and 1990.
