 Thrive - Newsboys - Music
It was that album that first featured the pairing of Peter with producer Steve Taylor (also a legendary Christian artist, songwriter, and the founder of Squint Entertainment), giving the Newsboys more of a Euro-dance-rock sound that was matched by extremely clever and satirical lyrics.
After two more studio albums, a greatest-hits collection, and an endless number of mind-blowing concerts (not to mention solo albums from Phil and Jody), the Newsboys are poised to thrill audiences yet again with their latest project, Thrive.
Though they've altered their sound just enough from album to album to give each their own flavor, the Newsboys have remained remarkably consistent over the years.

The Newsboys - a Review of The Phantom Tollbooth
That faction looked at the albums Step Up to the Microphone and Love Liberty Disco as a steady decline from the heights to which Newsboys' fans had grown accustomed.
The commonly held view was that with the departure of their lead singer and of producer Steve Taylor, the group had taken a different direction, one of finding their own way, that while interesting, was less satisfying to those who had been around since Going Public.
The album showcased a new, more serious, more textured pop-rock sound and image for the band.

Phenomenon was one of the biggest departures from a previous project in Christian music since the Newsboys decided to disco.
But a few years later, they signed onto Tooth & Nail and released Phenomenon, the album that a lot of people know this band by.
Gone is the rawness of yesteryear, TFK now plays with a much cleaner sound.

 Audio Adrenaline - BIO / ChristianMusic.com
Audio Adrenaline has continued to build an ever-widening fan base over the years, and that exposure was magnified in 2001 through the band's high-profile stint on the innovative Festival Con Dios Tour, the traveling outdoor festival Audio Adrenaline co-headlined with the Newsboys and the O.C. Supertones.
But we're Audio Adrenaline Junkies, and it was nice that we got something out of it as well."We saw this as a great way to support building the orphanage in Haiti for the children, while at the same time, it is an opportunity to bring great Christian music from AA to Connecticut.
While the band's focus has always touched on themes of missions and outreach, Audio Adrenaline has never been more aggressive in communicating that message than they are now, with the release of their new album, Worldwide.

Adoration: The Worship Album - Newsboys
Like most every Newsboys album to date, Adoration does at least sound good, as co-produced with long-time collaborator Steve Taylor (who also co-wrote many of the new tracks) and recorded in the band's home studio — it's like a more live sounding Thrive.
The problem with Adoration is the overall album, which might best be viewed as the Newsboys' answer to the success of Third Day's Offerings projects.
Three of the other songs on Adoration are previously released Newsboys favorites, retooled for this album.

Fans of the Newsboys will notice the presence of Duncan Philips and Jeff Frankenstein in the musicians section of the CD, however, that is as Newsboys as this album gets.
In 1994, Jody Davis joined forces with Peter Furler and John James of the Newsboys, continuing as an integral part of the band even today.
Newsboys guitarist, Jody Davis, was once bandmates with "I Love Lucy's" Little Ricky, but that is really the only Davis trivia I know outside of his Newsboys career.

 Jody Davis - Jody Davis
All in all Jody Davis is a pretty good debut album, and kudos to Davis for releasing an album done in a style that is different from that of his band, the Newsboys.
Unfortunately, there's two fairly major problems on this album: one, Davis' voice won't appeal to everyone, as it gets rather raw and scratchy at times; and two, the songs have a tendency to sound too much alike.
Now Jody Davis, guitarist for the Newsboys, has released his own solo project.

 Phil Joel - Music
A terrific melodic guitar rock follow-up to the debut solo album from the Newsboys bassist.
Joel, a musician of expanding clout successfully juggling his solo act and the demands of Newsboys, exercised a hectic schedule, making church life an occasional luxury instead of regular necessity.
The raw lyrics of the album expose the vulnerable yearnings of Phil Joel's constantly transforming soul, while the rough-hewn edge of his guitar conveys not the clichés of rock sociology, but the realities of spiritual revolution.

In 1997 I was a 12-year-old preacher’s kid brought up on the safe, derivative, contemporary Christian music of Carman, DC Talk, Audio Adrenaline, The Newsboys and their ilk.
A Garage Dayz Nite and Beatallica (or “The Grey Album&;, a mix of Metallica& “Black Album&; and The Beatles&; “White Album&;) elicited a strong response from fans and, unfortunately, Sony Records.
Beatallica mash up Beatles songs and Metallica riffage with a convincing James Hetfield impression by the lead vocalist.

Jesusfreakhideout.com: Phil Joel, "Bring It On" Review
The CD was warmly accepted by Newsboys and already Phil fans alike and produced the hit single "God Is Watching Over You." A sophomore solo project was inevitable and Fall 2002 sees the release of Bring It On.
Joel seems to be more about having fun through his music this time around, a personality trait obvious during his work with the Newsboys.
Phil Joel takes the opportunity to experiment more with his sound on Bring It On occasionally missing the mark, but for the most part succeeds in producing a fun and lyrically encouraging pop rock album.
