  Flood toll rises to 157
Death toll in the floods in Assam's Goalpara district rose to 157 with the recovery of seven more bodies since Monday night.
Heavy rainfall and flash floods claimed 174 lives since last week. Some 17 people were killed in landslides in Guwahati, besides the deaths in Goalpara.
Goalpara superintendent of police Violet Barua said that seven bodies were recovered since Monday night, including those of three women.

In 1866 Garo Hills was separated from Goalpara district area and in the same year a new district named "Greater Koch Behar" was created and the residual portion of Goalpara district was withdrawn from Rangpur and tagged with Koch Behar.

GUWAHATI: Six persons, including a CRPF jawan, were killed and at least 50 injured in a bomb blast triggered by banned Ulfa targeting a truck carrying security personnel in Assam's Goalpara district on Sunday.
Goalpara police said that the IED planted by Ulfa militants on National Highway 36 went off when a truck carrying CRPF jawans and a passenger bus were crossing the area.
The injured have been rushed to Goalpara civil hospital, and those in critical condition were sent to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.

Six people, including a Central Reserve Police Force jawan, were killed and at least 55 injured when United Liberation Front of Asom terrorists triggered a blast in Assam's Goalpara district, Director General of Police Harekrishna Deka said on Sunday.
The terrorists triggered an improvised explosive device on National Highway 36 when a truck carrying CRPF personnel and a passenger bus were crossing the area, Goalpara police said.

Guwahati: The death toll in the March 16 bomb blast triggered by United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) in Goalpara district of Assam rose to seven on March 17 with one of the injured succumbing to his wounds, official sources said.
