Viele der überlieferten Wunder sind ähnlich originell: Goar soll den Teufel getreten und bewirkt haben, dass kein Wein aus dem offenen Spundloch eines Fasses herauslief.
Schon bald nach seinem Tod wurde der Ort Sankt Goar nach ihm benannt und zu einem viel besuchten Wallfahrtsort, der von den Karolingern mit reichen Schenkungen ausgestattet und 765 an die Abtei Prüm übertragen wurde.
Goar ist Schutzpatron der Stadt St. Goar, der Winzer, der Schiffer, der Töpfer, der Ziegelarbeiter und der Gastwirte.

Eileen na Goar is a large vitrified fort, situated on the island at the entrance of Loch Ailort.
This island, locally termed Eilean na Goar, is the most eastern and is bounded on all sides by precipitous gneiss rocks; it is the abode and nesting place of numerous sea birds.
The flat surface on the top is 120 feet from the sea level, and the remains of the vitrified fort are situated on this, oblong in form, with a continuous rampart of vitrified wall five feet thick, attached at the SW end to a large upright rock of gneiss.

Although it is best seen from the west side of the Rhine River, the 450 foot sheer cliffs of the Loreley offers many a legend about the fair maiden that, being so distraught by the loss of a lover, jumped to her death off the sheer cliffs.
Goar offers a lovely shopping area, and again, if you arrive at the time of a festival, it's a friendly time you won't forget.
Goar is one of my favorite cities in Germany and I don't miss a chance to either drive there or take a convenient train when I'm in this part of the country.

The town's name derives from Goar, the saint who came to the Lohbach estuary in the middle of the 6th century, erected a hermitage, and brought Christian teaching to the people of the central Rhine area.
The town's most precious treasure which is to be found in the catholic parish church reconstructed at the end of the 19th century in new gothic style is yet another masterpiece of the late gothic, an altar picture which belongs to the most valuable works of central Rhine painting around 1480.
Thus it is not for nothing that the patron saint of the host and the potter is the holy St. Goar.
