At the end of 1962, when the Noosa Parks Association was formed, the only area set aside to protect the diverse landscapes and ecosystems of Noosa and Cooloola was the pocket-handkerchief-sized Noosa National Park.
The sustained activity of the Noosa Parks Association was able to keep it at that level, and eventually it led to the formation of the Cooloola and Lake Weyba National Parks.
By 1975, sand mining in the Noosa and Cooloola Shires had become virtually a dead issue, but other problems were claiming the attention of the Association, amongst which were real estate development, forestry activity and water extraction from the Cooloola sand mass.

The area around the mouth of the river was known as Mu-lu-bin-ba[1] (place of an edible type of fern) by the Indigenous Awabakal (people of Awaba, or Lake Macquarie) who had lived in the area for many thousands of years before the ‘discovery’ of the area by Shortland in 1797.
At the beginning of the nineteenth century, this river was an integral part of the country of the Awabakal, Worimi, and the inland Hunter River tribe, the Wanarua[3].
Elizabeth Gould, wife of the famous ornithologist, John Gould, described in 1839 the luxuriant vegetation on Mosquito Island, one of the larger of the tidal islands at the mouth of the River.

The next day we went North towards the Bay of Islands and went to a beach (sandy bay) where the surf was meant to be the best in the area.
He seems ok, but when we spoke to him he was a bit gutted cos he has been going on about lying by the pool for a few days, but when he checked in he found that the the pool was empty!lol, k,its not that funny but it made me and ketes laugh.
Fraser Island is so nice, seriously - theres loads of freshwater lakes that you can swim in, but the best was one called Lake McKenzie, its like the whitest sand u have ever seen and the clearest water aswell, it was just amazing.

The bus to Noosa departs at 9am and, surprisingly for such an early hour, we are on it.

 The June Fishing Report, Week Four 2001, Noosa, Queensland, Australia.
The North Shore, from the river mouth to Teewah proved to be the best option for surf anglers, yielding Bream, Whiting, Dart and Chopper Tailor (although not in numbers) with results rather patchy to say the least.
Anglers working the river mouth rock groyne reported Whiting in numbers if not size while the pick of the East side was Peregian Beach with the odd Chopper Tailor at night and Castaways Beach where a few Dart and Whiting were landed during the day.
Jed Hollis from Noosa Eco Fishing spent most of his time in the lower estuary this week and apart from Bream and Flathead in Weyba Creek, got some of his best results from working the North Shore stretch of the river from Goat Island to Munna Point.

Fraser Island, claimed to be the biggest sand island in the world, is 122km long, 5-25km wide and reaches 235m in height.

The beach action was a little subdued with the river end of the North Shore working best for Tailor over the weekend.
In the river, Whiting were still in good numbers and size down around the mouth (along with the odd Bream, Flathead and Tailor), in the Woods Bays and up as far as Goat Island.
Brielle was out on the river near Goat Island on Saturday night with her grandad Laurie and boated these Whiting (370gm and 430gm) using live Yabby on a No.4 longshank hook.

I had this pork thingy to start, Ains had a goat’s cheese tart (there were two meals that were alternated around the table), my main course was lamb with fancy mash potato and sauce, Ains had chicken with herbs and tomato on fancy mash potato.
Went for a swim in the river in the afternoon and then headed off to Stacey’s where we all got ready for the 21st party we were going to that evening.
Roddy was driving, i`d met him in Noosa, and Susan knew him from home, so we abused the poor lad with what we thought at the time was a chorus of harmonious "We love you Roddy, and if it`s quite alright, blah blah blah blah blah...".

We took advantage of the free canoes and canoed up the river as far as we could then back again battling wind and tide, Saw a wild monkey by the river tho so that was cool.
Lesotho is beautiful, really green and lush, arrived at the village where the night before they had slaughterd a goat in memory of their dead.
On the way we stopped and snorkelled in the Goat Island Marine reserve, saw some fish but was pretty cold so didn`t stay for long.
