Gobabis, Namibia, is a town situated 200 km (124 miles) down the B6 motorway from Windhoek to Botswana.
Gobabis is in the heart of the cattle farming area, and is considered to be the capital of the east and also known as the "Little Texas" of Namibia.
Gobabis continues to grow as a city due to goods crossing from the mines of landlocked Botswana to the Namibian port of Walvis Bay, and furthermore from consumer goods being imported into Namibia from Johannesburg in South Africa.

Gobabis is the gateway to the Trans Kalahari High- way, linking Namibia to Botswana and South Africa.
The Gobabis district was pro- claimed by the German authorities in February 1894 and in June the following year Gobabis was occupied by a German garrison.
Of special interest is the Gobabis Museum on the outskirts of the town, where a variety of old agricultural implements are displayed in the grounds, as well as a collection of historic artefacts in the museum itself.

Speaking at the launch, Gobabis Constituency Councillor, Laura Mcleod, said it was unfortunate that some people do not believe that HIV is a problem.

Hostel superintendent Sylvester Tshapa told Nampa that it is claimed that the 16-year-old pupil stabbed Clarence Kamanda (15) twice with a knife.

Sources at the eastern town told The Namibian that the four officers were rescued by the newly established Police anti-terrorism unit, which travelled to Gobabis from Windhoek, reportedly accompanied by Police Inspector General Sebastian Ndeitunga and another unnamed top cop.
Sources claimed that several of the trial-awaiting prisoners were assaulted in the rescue operation and that up to 16 "ring leaders" had since been identified and transferred to different prisons and Police holding cells throughout the country.
It was not clear yesterday whether any Police officers or members of the group that foiled the hostage drama were also injured in the tussle with the prisoners.
