Bird and Bird Bird & Bird defends "Gobelins Art" trade mark
The Brussels Court nevertheless found for infringement, because it was of the opinion that the specific way in which the word "Gobelin" was used by the defendant did not serve as an indication of quality or composition, but could only be understood as an indication of origin, i.e.
The trade mark “Gobelins Art” was found valid and the defendant's mark was seen as being easily confusedwith “Gobelins Art”.
The court however added an important point that the injunction would not prevent the defendant from using the word “Gobelin” in a way that would not be perceived as an indication of origin but only as an indication of quality or composition of the products.

The fact that today the gobelins are to be found in Gobelin Hall is probably due to a profound renovation of the palace that was performed by the dukes of Oldenburg between 1831 and 1835.
It is difficult to interpret the depictions of the gobelins since their mythological or allegorical meaning cannot be determined unambiguously.
There might possibly be a connection between the gobelin with the rural scene and the season's cycle, and the one with the bathing scene might be an interpretation of the myth of Diana taking a bath.

He established the Royal Manufactory of Furniture of the Crown in 1662 to 1667, and it took its name of the Gobelins from the private residence in which it was housed.
It was because the tapestry factories were always private enterprises that the art lived precariously, for rarely is the artist a business man. Henri IV was the first monarch to realize that the State should assume the financial responsibility and leave the artist and artist weaver unembarrassed by the need of funds.
Coming a little nearer to the time of the establishment of the Gobelins, the factory at Maincy north of Paris is discovered, and this if one reads between the lines of historic fact, would seem to have had a large influence in developing the desire of Louis XIV to reign over factories of his own.
