God game - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
God games are generally large-scale strategic fantastic simulations, sometimes of entire worlds and populations, that cast you in the position of an entity with divine or supernatural powers.
The name "god game" is derived from reference to games in which the character plays a godlike entity that controls entire worlds; Populous is generally credited with inspiring the name.
However, unlike in god games, these catastrophies — which can and do occur "naturally" in the game — are not integral to the gameplay and in fact not really of "your" doing but rather a feature left in for testing the robustness of your city or simply for purposes of amusement, sadism or megalomania.

 The Game of God
Many religions have tried to explain God's motives for creating the universe, a universe filled with suffering and death, but these theologies are often illogical and filled with contradictions, and thus fail to provide comfort when a true test arises: when real disaster strikes.
God, as opposed to our person who "has it all" (but really doesn't), is, according to our definition, truly unlimited.
Even God in the poorest rags would still be conscious God, and therefore could not possibly have the experience of what it is to be poor (the fear...the desperation...the hopelessness...).

The result was Ultima IV: The Quest of the Avatar, a game that used a series of ethical questions to determine your character class, and then thrust you into a world that offered a great deal of freedom.
Adventure games typically use religion as the historical and supernatural backdrop needed for such a story driven genre.
The game uses the Adam and Eve 'corruption of innocence' motif, as a simple, melodramatic story device yet never exploits it fully.

It doesn't happen often, but every now and then a game is released that's so outstanding that all kinds of gamers must play it regardless of their genre preferences.
The game's opening cinema shows Kratos hurling himself down a mountain because the gods of Olympus (not the camera company) have abandoned him.
God of War is a third-person action game with some of the goriest, most exaggerated, and over-the-top violence I've ever seen -- and I mean that in the best possible way.

PS2 Game Reviews: God of War
Despite a long period of service to the gods of Mount Olympus, death seems to be the only solace for the protagonist of God of War… and that’s how the game begins.
He is tortured by nightmares—visions of his past—and the gods have promised him forgiveness for his sins and shameless deeds… should he kill Ares.
God of War has been the recipient of a lot of hype and gamers have been waiting a long time to get their hands on it.

God of War Review for PS2 on GamePro.com
The game's premise is as ancient as the mythos itself: Ares, the titular deity with serious self-esteem issues, has gone on a rampage and must be stopped.
Being Greek gods (who are prone to sit on their eternal asses and empower others to do their dirty work), a mortal dutifully takes up the task: Kratos, a tortured Spartan warrior who can pry off Gorgon heads, tear some enemies completely in half, and perform other super-human feats.
Setbacks aside, God of War is an exhausting, epic quest that challenges the mightiest video game warrior from the throne of their living-room couch.

Like other Maxis games, such as the earlier SimCity (also designed by Wright), The Sims is sometimes described as a "god game": a game that lets you create and control the lives of virtual people.
Instead, the game focuses entirely on virtual people called "Sims", placing the player in control of a "virtual dollhouse", controlling their daily activities such as sleeping, eating, cooking and bathing, to name a few.
The presentation of the game's artificial intelligence is very advanced, and the sims will respond to outside conditions by themselves, although often the player/controller's intervention is necessary to keep them on the right track.

I asked the coach: "what are the requirements for a referee?" "The referee must know all the rules of the game, he must enforce the rules on everyone, or else the game isn't worth playing," said the coach.

The Nature of Reality - God's Game
The US psychiatrist, Stanislav Grof, aptly describes 'reality' as we perceive it as a 'game', because in essence we and the whole Universe (and that includes all experiential realms, not just the physical universe) are nothing more than a figment of the Creative Principle's imagination.
The 'Game' itself is of such a profound nature as to be infinite and beyond time, a concept almost certainly beyond the comprehension of most people.
Some mystics suggest that GOD was simply bored with a state of timeless perfection and wished to experience itself.

 God's Game Plan
Sin means missing the mark, falling short of God's standard.
It is not only doing wrong and failing to do what God wants, but it is also an attitude of ignoring or rejecting God which is a result of our sinful nature.

The God Game   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
To clarify this point: the acceptance of The God Game is that in death the illusion of selfness is shed, along with the body, and consciousness 'returns' to the primordial, formless energy from which it emerged.
The God Game is about perception, illusion, identity, and the masks we wear to hide from the terrible truth of ourselves: that we are the sole creators of our reality.
The desired effect of The God Game is a sense of vertigo at the overwhelming nature of the human experience, the myriad, mutating points of view that make up the collective human experience and our multi-faceted, only partially consensus perception of 'reality.' The films strive to create an affinity between the audience and the Players.
