Warehouse Eyes - Slow Train Coming
To many, Dylan was just a dilettante jumping on an increasingly trendy bandwagon, after all several of his colleagues from the heady days of Rolling Thunder, notably T-Bone Burnett, Steve Soles and David Mansfield had taken that route although they all denied influencing him in any way.
This is one of a trio of songs on the album (the other two are "Precious Angel" and "Gonna Change My Way Of Thinking") in which Dylan bears witness to his own redemption rather than attempting to show others the error of their ways.
With the passage of time, it seems quite likely that Dylan's embracement of Christianity was an emotional crutch to get him over a difficult period in his life, and if that is the case then we should be grateful for "Slow Train Coming," the superb album that it produced.

To dismiss this album because there's not a "God of Thunder" on it or screaming guitars wouldn't be fair.

While the highlights of the album were excellent, there were too few of them, and the number of demos and covers used on the album stretched the value of the album.
Death Metal had matured as a genre, and a new crop of bands were also making their presence felt.

 Juno Reactor: Shango: Pitchfork Review
Shango is the name of the Nigerian thunder god and, subsumed into the Juno Reactor mythos, he symbolizes "governments and media sterilizing facts of a major European war to make it seem normal to the citizens of the world.
Juno Reactor, freed from producing yet another Traci Lords album, have once again mined the meager seam of ethno-industrial-Goa-techno that they discovered in 1996.
Shango, when not displaying the sordid results of Juno Reactor's scouring the African continent for local talent, is every bit as ponderous as one would expect a psychedelic industrial techno album to be.

Well really I can only describe the sound of this album as some sort of Blues-Punk hybrid with two basses which thunder and pound their distorted way across the length and breadth of the release.

Throw in Journey to the God of Monk Rock, a nine minute long instrumental with five bass lines (thanks to Rothko lending a hand), then consider the fact that the potentially suicidal epic track actually sounds good, and you begin to realise Monkey Boy's underlying talent.

After the tour was over, Gene decided that he had had enough with mogulling and being a movie "star" and vowed to take his role in KISS more seriously.  He would claim that with the removal of the makeup in 1983, he was lost and sought refuge in other facets of the entertainment industry.

I think she is some sort of manifestation of Perkon, the thunder god (introduced to me thru "Kas Dimd"): dark, unpredictable, exciting, scary, and very powerful.
"Kas Dimd" is a piece sung in Latvian about Perkons, the thundergod (that's what the liner notes say) that is a great example of the power of her music.
In this album Ingrid Karklins uses many varied and exotic instruments that add a wonderful array of unusual sounds throughout the recording.

Of these, the death metal take on Kiss' "God of Thunder" from the Out of Hand EP is an interesting comparison to the original, though the song loses its appeal after a few listens.
Still, one wishes Earache would have made a more sincere effort to document this group's illustrious growth from a young and innovative death metal group to a band working outside of generic constraints in its instinctual aim to trailblaze new paths through heavy metal motifs.
The problem involves the band's continual evolution with every album.

Watkin's secret weapon for Juno Reactor, though, is suggested in the album's title--"Shango's the Nigerian god of thunder, and also the patron saint of percussionists." Which would mean that South African unit Amampondo, who contribute to several amazing tracks on the disc and will be joining Watkins on stage here, fall under Shango's divine jurisdiction.
"'Masters of the Universe,'" says central member Ben Watkins, "was written specifically around the time of Kosovo, almost as an anthem for this attitude, the arrogance of the West.
