Climatologists at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies have found that 2006 was the fifth warmest year in the past century.
GISS is a world leader in the use of three-dimensional general circulation models (GCMs) to study Earth's climate, both in the development of numerical modeling methods and in analyzing human-climate interaction.
GISS is involved in the modeling and/or observation of the atmospheres of Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.

The NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), at Columbia University in New York City, is a component laboratory of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center Earth-Sun Exploration Division and a unit of the Columbia University Earth Institute.
GISS was established in May 1961 by Dr. Robert Jastrow to do basic research in space sciences in support of Goddard programs.
The institute is housed at the corner of West 112th St. and Broadway in New York City in Columbia University's Armstrong Hall [2].

Stephen H. Schneider is a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, a Senior Fellow at the Center for Environment Science and Policy of the Institute for International Studies, and Professor by Courtesy in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University since September, 1992.
He was honored in 1992 with a MacArthur Fellowship for his ability to integrate and interpret the results of global climate research through public lectures, seminars, classroom teaching, environmental assessment committees, media appearances, Congressional testimony, and research collaboration with colleagues.
He studied the role of greenhouse gases and suspended particulate material on climate as a postdoctoral fellow at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.
