  Godflesh - Industrial Grindcore
Where Godflesh have matured is in aspects of riffcraft refinement and conventional song structure, and in use of a melody vocal chorus to counterpoint a harsh growled attack over low-end power chords, creating an experience that flows more smoothly than the still grind-edged approach of their earlier music.
Of the later Godflesh albums, this is the strongest effort they have put forth as it is closest to what J. Broadrick achieved in Techno Animal between Godflesh albums, and what this band of musicians seem to desire as their future.
Godflesh in their groundbreaking stages were an angry band out to change the world: now they will lull us into contemplation of beauty to bring sensibility and lurking morality to this anger.

 Rough Edge: Godflesh CD Reviews
While Godflesh doesn't rely on industrial beats or samples like they have on the last couple of CDs, the relative simplicity of "Hymns" gives the pounding guitars, bass, and drums approach just the right amount of heaviness to marry up with the doom and gloom of the lyrics.
Godflesh are one of those bands that will be long remembered for being for their fresh approach to heavy metal, if not for the fact that commercial success has eluded them.

The passion behind Godflesh, Techno Animal, and a countless other pseudonymns and one-off bands, Broadrick has been creating music for going on two decades that has one singular focus: distilling the human experience into a stark singuarlity.

Godflesh --- Official Relapse Records Band Page
When Birmingham based duo Godflesh began creating their stark, hypnotic musical blueprint in the late 80’s, they were heralded as true innovators - crushing heaviness forged with such bleak soundscapes that it left listeners uneasy, wondering how music could be so unforgiving and enjoyable at the same time.
Godflesh created a new scene which the press termed Industrial, with such landmark albums as ‘Streetcleaner’ (1989), ‘Pure’ (1992) and the Columbia financed ‘Selfless’ (1994) providing the base for many a wannabe Industrial band to copy.
However, Godflesh, the originators of a scene, have always managed to keep one step ahead, and the next album, ‘Songs of Love and Hate’ was no exception - emotion, aggression, passion and sonic torment merged into a unique whole mean that the Godflesh noise had never sounded so challenging.

That dry, other-worldly drum machine stamping all over the seismic throbs of GC Green's distortionized bass (tuned 10 octaves lower than standard or something ridiculous like that), kicking you into a netherealm labrynth of contorted rhythms.
Diehard followers will rejoice at finally being able to hold this long lost gem in their hands, while curious onlookers could certainly hop on the train with this as their first stop.
