Godred - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Godred is a fictional character from The Railway Series by Rev.
Godred was a rack and pinion steam locomotive who used to work on the Culdee Fell Mountain Railway, and from what Culdee says in the story, "Bad Look Out", Godred's eyes were everywhere except the track.
Godred's demise was based on the Snowdon Mountain Railway No. 1, L.A.D.A.S., which was named after Louisa Alice Duff Assheton Smith of Vaenol, daughter of the owner of Dinorwic Quarry.

Godred Crovan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Godred Crovan Haroldson (King of Man) was born sometime before 1066 and died in 1087 in Islay, an island of the Inner Hebrides.
It is generally believed that in 1066 Godred was appointed Sovereign of The Isle of Man by Norwegian King Harold thus marking the beginning of the period of Scandinavian domination of the island.
It appears, according to the Chronicon Manniae (Chronicle of The Isle of Man) compiled in 1257, that Godred Crovan controlled Dublin, Ireland and parts of Scotland during his reign, though the details are lost.

Notes 3-4 Chronicle, Manx Soc vol 22
Godred the son of Sytric (i.e., Sigtryggr), who reigned in Man, when Godred Crowan came there, seems, to judge from his patronymic name, to have belonged to the dynasty of Dublinian kings ; perhaps even he was himself King of Dublin.
Now, as Godred Crowan (as will be seen hereafter) died in 1095, and our Chronicle states expressly that he reigned over Man for sixteen years from the time of the conquest, this event must have taken place in 1079 or 1080, not, as our Chronicle has it, in 1074 or 1075 (signified by 1056).

I87: Godred Crovan HAROLDSON (King of Man) (BEF 1066 - 1087)
I. Godred, surnamed Crowan, son of Harold, the Black, being appointed sovereign of Man, and the Western Isles, by Harold, the Imperious, came with a fleet, and army, and took possession of his kingdom, anno 1066, but the superiority still remained with the kings.
The two Godreds managed to escape to the Isle of Man. King Godred Sigtryggson of Man and the Isles died shortly afterwards and was succeeded by his son Fingal.
Godred Crovan seems to to have returned to Iceland, but in 1071 he is in Norway, busily collecting an army to invade the Isle of Man. He received strong naval support from the Hebrides, but for some reason, he met with stubborn opposition in Man. Despite two setbacks, he finally triumphed in battle at Scaefell.

 History of Isle of Man
Between about A.D. 800 and 815 the Vikings came to Man chiefly for plunder; between about 850 and 990, when they settled in it, the island fell under the rule of the Scandinavian kings of Dublin; and between 990 and 1079, it was subject to the powerful earls of Orkney.
Olaf, Godred's son, was a powerful monarch, who, according to the Chronicle, maintained "such close alliance with the kings of Ireland and Scotland that no one ventured to disturb the Isles during his time " (1113-1152).
His son, Godred, who for a short period ruled over Dublin also, as a result of a quarrel with Somerled, the ruler of Argyll, in 1156, lost the smaller islands off the coast of Argyll.
