Barry's Temple of Godzilla --Reader Feedback
Originally, Godzilla [or "Gojira" as he's called in Japanese] was probably meant as a metaphor of nuclear war in general, and perhaps Hiroshima and Nagasake in particular.
Of course, in a number of the movies, especially those in the late 60's-mid 70's, Godzilla was considered to be just one of a number of monsters running around the world, and he was often called upon to save humanity from those other nasty monsters.
In Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, Godzilla's "second brain" was completely blown up, but managed to regenerate when he was exposed to radiation.

Perhaps the biggest drawback of Godzilla vs. King Ghidrah is Miki, introduced as a member of the ESP Research Institute in Japan´s Godzilla Defense Forces (GDS for short).
Miki had previously appeared in Godzilla vs. Biollante and was probably an attempt by Toho to substitute the Kenny (in Godzilla lore, that´s shorthand for "annoying little kid in hot pants who befriended Godzilla in previous episodes") with something that might appeal to a bigger audience than just Catholic priests.
All I did learn about Godzilla is that there are two different series: the Heisei series, in which Godzilla is a big meanie, and the original series, where he was chummy with a kid in hot pants.
