Goeldi's monkey (Callimico goeldii) is a small, South American monkey that lives in the upper Amazon Basin region of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
Goeldi's monkey was first described in 1904, making it one of the last monkey genera to be described.
Goeldi's monkeys prefer to forage in dense scrubby undergrowth; perhaps because of this, they are rare, with groups living in separate patches of suitable habitat, separated by miles of unsuitable flora.

Rebecca Wentz, a zookeeper, describes the Goeldi's as the "shyest of all the monkeys" at the zoo.

Keeping in touch: Goeldi's monkeys have several different scent glands and they often cover their tails in scent by rubbing them on their undersides.
Like many other monkeys, they have a range of calls: chirps, chucks and screams that are used to keep in touch when feeding, to warn of approaching danger or to keep in touch with neighbouring groups.
Goeldi's Monkey was one of the last species of monkey to be discovered by western explorers.

Goeldi’s monkey must be one of the cutest animals at Edinburgh Zoo, especially when one of the families is raising a newborn infant (and parenting for this monkey is a family affair, with adult male(s) and siblings lending a hand).
The Goeldi’s monkeys at Edinburgh Zoo are part of a European conservation breeding programme, in which over 50 zoos are participating.
It is thought that the goeldis’ monkey is the closest living relative to a common ancestor of marmosets and tamarins.
