	Nara Prefecture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Nara Prefecture is located in the middle of the Kii Peninsula on the western half of Honshū, Japan.
		Nara is bordered to the west by Wakayama Prefecture and Osaka Prefecture; on the north by Kyoto Prefecture and on the east by Mie Prefecture.
		Despite being in the middle of Japan, Nara is one of Japan's warmest prefectures; snow is a rarity in Nara, although there is some accumulation in the southern mountains during the winter.

	Shinmachi Juku
		The city of Gojo lies along the center of Nara Prefecture’s western edge, and there is a street here named “Shinmachi-dori.” It is a peaceful and quiet street lined roof to roof with old homes.
		Members of the Shinmachi Juku’s study group came to know that the book Gojo, put out in 1977 by the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, lists among its records of surveys on the town’s layout that Shinmachi-dori is the oldest street in Japan.
		In the Edo period Gojo was considered vital to transportation, but that was back when people went from place to place on foot.

		Shinmachi-doori, the main road between Futami and Gojo during the Edo period, was established as the economic center of Gojo when Matsukura Shigemasa, the head of Futami Castle for 1608 till 1616, began distributing licenses for the production and selling of sake, soy sauce, lamp oil and the managing of ryokan.
		Each summer the fireworks of the Yoshinogawa-matsuri, held in the shadows of the bridge, attract thousands of spectators from all around the area and remind one of the fact that Gojo once was, and in many ways still is the center for the southern part of Nara prefecture.
