Fardon was born in England in 1807, arrived in San Francisco during the Gold Rush, and in 1856 published a fine album of photographic views of that locale thought to be the earliest published photographic record of an American city.
An unmatched historical document of San Francisco during its years of rapid growth and burgeoning prosperity in the wake of the Gold Rush, the album is aesthetically compelling as well.
One copy of the album was acquired by the Fraenkel gallery in 1998 and exhibited in the summer of 1999.

But much of After the Gold Rush consisted of country-folk love songs, which consolidated the audience Young had earned through his tours and recordings with CSNY; its dark yet hopeful tone matched the tenor of the times in 1970, making it one of the definitive singer/songwriter albums, and it has remained among Young's major achievements.
Now most people know this album for the songs Southern man, and After the Goldrush, but every song on this album is fantastic.
In the 15 months between the release of Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and After the Gold Rush, Neil Young issued a series of recordings in different styles that could have prepared his listeners for the differences between the two LPs.

Neil Young: After The Gold Rush ---Ink Blot Magazine
The variety and quality of the songs causes After The Gold Rush to play like a greatest hits album, which unbelievably it is not.
Coming on the heels of his breakthrough solo record "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere," After The Gold Rush upped the ante even further, showing that Neil had moved far beyond his origins in Buffalo Springfield and the comparisons to Bob Dylan.
Young is comparable only to Bob Dylan in terms of his contributions to songwriting and rock n' roll, and is still an important and vital performer who challenges the status quo and his own reputation with an alarming regularity.
