Golden West Network (GWN) is the Seven Network affiliate in Western Australia, servicing all areas except metropolitan Perth in competition with WIN Television WA.
GWN was granted the Remote Commercial Television License (RCTS) for remote Western Australia in June 1985.
In December 1985, GWN acquired VEW8 Kalgoorlie, and in 1987, purchased GTW11 Geraldton.

Golden West Network has also provided the ABA with data on field strength measurements carried out by the National Transmission Agency (NTA) in relation to the signal quality in parts of the SSW licence area, including the five towns listed in the ABA's proposed condition (Pemberton, Margaret River, Bridgetown, Nannup and Manjimup).
Golden West Network believes the data shows that signal quality in the five towns is no worse than it was before the refurbishment of the Mt Lennard transmission facility in December 1996.
The ABA advised Golden West Network that it was proposing to impose a condition on the SSW licence.

GWN did get the licence, and on the 20th of October, 1986, the first educational program was broadcast via satellite, to every television in the state outside of Perth and Geraldton.
