Bushfires spark reminder to be fire ready » ABC Western Australia » Local News The Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) says a number of large bushfires in Western Australia's Goldfields region last week are a stark reminder for residents to prepare their properties for summer. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FUNDS URGENT WA FLOOD REPAIRS The Federal Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Anderson, said today that $1.6 million would be allocated for flood damage repairs on the Great Northern Highway in the mid-west region ($700,000), on the Great Eastern Highway in the wheatbelt north region ($600,000) and in the Goldfields/Esperance region served by the Great Eastern Highway ($300,000). Mr Anderson said drought and flooding rains were a fact of life in Australia.
