The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder covers the Esperance-Eastern Goldfields Country Zone of the Western Australian Local Government Association, which includes nine local government authorities where the characteristic focus is mining.

 Bushfires spark reminder to be fire ready » ABC Western Australia » Local News
The Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) says a number of large bushfires in Western Australia's Goldfields region last week are a stark reminder for residents to prepare their properties for summer.
Six big fires burned through thousands of hectares of bushland in the Esperance region, while a large fire broke out in bushland near Coolgardie and covered Kalgoorlie-Boulder with a pall of smoke.
The Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) says fires are still burning near Salmon Gums, Norseman and Coolgardie.

 FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FUNDS URGENT WA FLOOD REPAIRS
The Federal Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Anderson, said today that $1.6 million would be allocated for flood damage repairs on the Great Northern Highway in the mid-west region ($700,000), on the Great Eastern Highway in the wheatbelt north region ($600,000) and in the Goldfields/Esperance region served by the Great Eastern Highway ($300,000).
Mr Anderson said drought and flooding rains were a fact of life in Australia.
The Federal Government will fund urgent repairs to the National Highway network in Western Australia following damage caused by cyclones Vance and Elaine earlier this year.
