Goldfinger (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Goldfinger is a 1990s ska-punk band, formed in 1993 and named after the James Bond film, Goldfinger.
Their full length debut, Goldfinger, was released in 1996 and was a hit on college radio.
Though their second album, Hang-Ups, was less successful, the band still maintained a devoted fanbase in the hardcore community.

Charlie's first show with Goldfinger was a little hectic, he was given a tape of the songs on Friday night, practiced with the band on Saturday and played a show that night.
Goldfinger then recorded their Demo EP called "richter", it was given amazing reviews and they were getting good indie/college radio airplay.
In 1997 Goldfinger released their second LP entitled "Hang-Up's" their first single "This Lonely Place" was not as big a success as the release of "Here in your Bedroom", but it did give them numerous live talk-show appearances and spins of the video, which is a play on "Alien".

CityBeat: Goldfinger on the Trigger (2000-04-27)
Goldfinger guitarist/vocalist John Feldmann is just slightly preoccupied as he answers questions about the band's current tour as well as questions from the band about where they should be stopping to eat.
One of the first shifts in the band's thinking was to steer away from Ska Punk, which had been a hallmark of Goldfinger's sound to date.
If there was one truly affecting factor in Goldfinger's development since its first album, it would have to be the permanent addition of bassist Kelly Lemieux, who'd been the touring bassist since 1998 but here makes his studio debut with the band.

In the case of Goldfinger that cover was their self-titled CD release that I had listened to a few times while working, but never really listened to it.
Here we have a band with two trombone players, two trumpet players, a bass dude, drummer dude, and a lead singer/guitarist who had his pants rolled up to his knees and was wearing a shirt with daisies on it.
Goldfinger may be labeled wrongly from many critics, but they aren't buying the CD's, and in some cases probably aren't seeing the shows.

The L.A.-based Goldfinger first saw the light of pop culture day in those crazy mid-1990s, rising to fame against the backdrop of the ska explosion that took the world by storm for all of spring 1997.
The band was part of the third wave of ska that wrought bands such as the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Save Ferris, No Doubt, The Toasters and Reel Big Fish (who were and still are labelmates with GFinger).
Goldfinger isn’t a ska band, but they were happy and upbeat enough to be included in the deal.

Goldfinger's path to this record is not without precedent.
In the early '70s, a then-underground band called Kansas toured relentlessly off the beaten path, bringing their progressive overtures to seedy juke joints and cowboy bars.
Similarly, Goldfinger's incessant touring schedule is legendary (385 shows in 365 days in 1996-97) and as a result, the band has garnered quite a loyal underground following of their own.

The band threw in a few twists that kept the crowd on its feet and a little quirky entertainment to push the music forward, but these attempts drowned in an otherwise sluggish set of tunes.
The band's ska roots were watered down to the point that the ska-based guitar rhythm would pop up every so often, as if it remained a vestigial part of the band by failing to make a musical statement.
Goldfinger's greatest talent must have been their unbelievable method of manipulating the audience into a frenzy.

After the band had finished the version of the song that appears on Turn the Radio Off, they began again, going through the song in different styles, in all replaying the song three times back to back in punk, death metal, and disco styles.
The crowd interaction from Goldfinger seemed minimal compared to Reel Big Fish's joking around, but they managed to keep things moving with crowd-pleasing versions of their staples such as "Here in Your Bedroom", "End of the Day", and "Counting the Days".

Goldfinger's ability to write hook-laden pop tunes that are as good as anything on the radio was best exemplified by its live renditions of "Free," "Superman" and "This Lonely Place," a pop song that rivals any number Elvis Costello wrote in his prime.

Solidifying their ska and pop influences, GOLDFINGER recruited musicians of such renowned ska-inspired bands as No Doubt, the Skeletones, and Fishbone (whose singer Angelo Moore shared vocals with Feldmann on "Carlita" and "I Need To Know") to lend their unique touches to Hang-Ups.
Yet, as a band that prides itself on doing Twisted Sister and Motley Crue covers in concert, GOLDFINGER is still GOLDFINGER and serious lyrics always keep company with smart ass songs permeated with snide sarcasm and tongue-in-cheek humor.
