Goldsworthy is located near Port Hedland, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
Later an embargo was placed on the export of Australian ore as it was seen as a strategic material of potential use to Australia's possible enemies.
This was built by Goldsworthy Mining Ltd to transport the ore to Finucane Island, situated near Port Hedland.

It is possible that the common mis-application of the lay critique derives from the fact that in Western culture at least, art has traditionally been pushed in the direction of representationalism, the literal presentation of reality through literal images.
While certain forms of art outside a Western tradition, such as Islamic geometric designs and calligraphy, Buddhist or Hindu mandalas and Celtic knotwork, though they are non-representational, still require a measure of skill and certain creative involvement in their execution, without questioning the traditional form.
Contemporary artist Andy Goldsworthy, on the other hand, chose to use the medium of found natural objects and materials to arrange temporary sculptures.

Educated at Kapunda High School, South Australia, and later at the Adelaide School of Mines, Goldsworthy went on to Adelaide University where he worked as a technician in the Physics Department.
In the years before the war, Goldsworthy was engaged in business in Western Australia.
Before the Allied invasion of France, Goldsworthy was involved in the selection and training of men for port clearance and he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross in January 1945 for his bravery and leadership in clearing Cherbourg Harbour, which was needed urgently to supply Allied troops advancing across France.

Iron ore hopeful Fortescue Metals Group Ltd says claims by BHP Billiton Ltd that third-party access to its rail lines in the Pilbara is not in the national interest does not make sense.
Fortescue, through the Federal Court, is seeking access to BHP's railways to allow development of the Mindy Mindy iron ore deposit, but BHP has argued the railways are part of the production process and cannot be open to third parties.
The Mt Newman and Goldsworthy rail lines are in the Pilbara region of Western Australia and transport more than 100 million tonnes of iron ore each year to Port Hedland for blending, processing and shipping.
