Goli Ameri (in Persian:گلی عامری) (nee Goli Yazdi) is a Republican Iranian-American businesswoman who ran for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives from Oregon.
Ameri, though reluctant intially to focus on the issue, heavily pushed it in the closing days of her campaign.
Ameri was later appointed by George W. Bush as one of three public members of the United States' delegation to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, which meets annually in Geneva, Switzerland.

Ameri correct the GOP or is it too much to her benefit for the average American to confuse -- especially in the post 9/11 climate -- her voluntary emigration to the US as a self-described student at age 17 with some sort of freedom-seeking refuge from the revolution of the ayatollahs.
Goli should be able to be whatever she wants: Muslim, Zoroastrian, Christian, Buddhist, Atheist...and we shouldn't have to have to "relate" to her religion in order to make a decision about supporting her.

Ameri to rant and rave against the revolution that persecuted her family and “destroyed a nation” as one of her campaign ads says, and then innocently visit the Islamic republic, admittedly, on at least 2 occasions (reference yet again that Willamette Week interview).
Ameri’ opposition several years ago to fingerprinting Iranian visitors to the US came up in her primary race, and continues to be an issue in the general election.
