The Gomti River, also known as the Gumti or Gomati, is a tributary of the river Ganga.
The river is polluted owing to the large factories and tanneries in the state of Uttar Pradesh, which has affected fish populations.
Hindus believe that the river is daughter of Sage Vashistha, and bathing in the waters of the Gomati can remove sin.
