Gondola lift - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A gondola lift is a type of aerial lift, often called a cable car, which consists of a loop of steel cable that is strung between two stations, sometimes over intermediate supporting towers.
Examples of a lift with three stops instead of the standard two are the Village Gondola and the Excalibur Gondolas at Whistler, while an example of a lift with four terminals is the Plattieres Gondola at Meribel.

Any lift in which skiers are transported while suspended off the ground, as opposed to surface lifts, which move skiers and snowboarders up the hill while their skis or boards are in contact with the snow.
The drive is also tied in with all of the lift's inline safety circuitry, which shuts down the lift automatically in the event of a problem on the line or in one of the terminals.
Lift manufacturers and ski areas also consider the terminals at either end of a lift to be towers.

 What is a Gondola?
Gondolas curve slightly to the right, rather than being symmetrical like most craft, to compensate for the fact that they are rowed with only one oar.
A gondola lift, also known as a cable car or aerial lift, consists of a long steel cable hooked to two turning points, with a number of passenger cabins carried along by the cable.
Gondola lifts are most common at ski resorts, though they are also found over many scenic areas, where they are often called sky rides.

The twin entrances for a gondola lift are certainly a new feature, but by far the most interesting technical innovation is the fact that one third of the gondolas are redirected in the mid station and sent back downhill.
The mid station houses both drive and tension systems, the parking facility for the gondolas, the control center, electrical rooms with medium voltage and transformer cubicles, emergency power generators and a garaging facility for snow-grooming vehicles.
The prime task of the new Lorenzi 8- seater gondola lift is to eliminate waiting times on the feeder lift OLANG I+II to Kronplatz(2).
