For the successively further derived Gondwanatherium and Sudamerica, compressions on the lingual side are more apparent so that the shapes are less regular.
Lavanify further differs from Gondwanatherium in having cheek-teeth with vertical furrows that extend to the base of the crown and onto the root", (Krause et al, 1997, p.504).
In common with Gondwanatherium, this genus had high-crowned teeth, which are very useful for eaters of grass.

Gondwanatherium is a genus of mammals from the extinct taxon of Gondwanatheria, that lived in Patagonia, South America during the " Age of Dinosaurs ", specifically the Upper Cretaceous.
The species Gondwanatherium patagonicum was discovered in Los Alamitos, Patagonia in deposits dating to the Upper Cretaceous period.
Though earlier than Sudamerica, Gondwanatherium is considered more anatomically derived (advanced).

Sudamerica is a genus of mammal from the extinct suborder Gondwanatheria, that lived in Patagonia, South America during the Paleocene, just after the end of the " Age of Dinosaurs ".
Similar to Gondwanatherium, this genus had high-crowned teeth, which are very useful for eating grasses.
Since there is no evidence of grass in South America until later, they must also have been effective for other types of food.

Superfamily Gondwanatherioidea: A Previously Unrecognized Radiation of Multituberculate Mammals in South America -- ...
New specimens provide evidence that two other South American forms, Gondwanatherium and Sudamerica, are also multituberculates and that they are closely related to Ferugliotherium.
Gondwanatherium and Sudamerica, each possessing highly specialized hypsodont molars, were previously thought to be the earliest known representatives of the Edentata, to be involved in the origin of edentates, or to represent a previously unknown higher taxon of mammals.
However, there are detailed similarities in gross dental morphology, enamel microstructure, and inferred direction of jaw movement among Ferugliotherium, Gondwanatherium, and Sudamerica.

 Age of mammals
An odd group of late Mesozoic to early Cenozoic mammals from the ancient landmass of Gondwana is worth mentioning here since it may represent a southern radiation of multituberculates.
At least Gondwanatherium and Ferugliotherium had enlarged incisors for gnawing.
But the most striking feature of advanced gondwanatheres like Gondwanatherium and Sudamerica are the very high-crowned molars.
