It portrays the story from a clearly Old South point of view: the South is presented as a great civilization, the practice of slavery is never questioned, and the plight of the freedmen after the Civil War is implicitly blamed on their emancipation.
Gone With the Wind was hardly alone in the 1930s in its caricature of African American characters, and it did offer previously unavailable opportunities to such fl actors as Hattie McDaniel (Mammy), Butterfly McQueen (Prissy), and Eddie Anderson (Uncle Peter).
Gone With the Wind was widely praised as a landmark achievement, and critics continue to regard it as important for its cinematography, art direction, and special effects, and for its ambitious portrayal of history.

Tasmania - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The island of Tasmania, an Australian state, is located 200 km south of the eastern portion of the continent, being separated from it by Bass Strait.
The most mountainous regions are the Central Highlands and south western areas, which cover most of the central, west and south west parts of the state.
The temperate climate (Tasmania is the only Australian state with any land south of the 40th parallel), rustic environment and numerous historic features (for example, Richmond Bridge in southeastern Tasmania is the oldest bridge in Australia) make Tasmania a popular choice for retirees who prefer a temperate climate over a tropical one such as Queensland.

Mother Tongue Annoyances › Origin of ‘Gone South’
According to Robert Chapman’s Dictionary of American Slang (Harper Collins, 1995), “go south” (or “head south” or “take a turn south”) means “to disappear; fail by or as if by vanishing,” which certainly seems to cover a computer or other device that simply stops working and cannot be revived.
Louis Post-Dispatch of May 1903 in which a glossary of slang heard at the St. Louis fair reported that “gone south” meant “left the town; not heard of; to steal.” So we can safely assume that the major senses of “gone south” were already in use by the beginning of the 20th century.
There seem to be two theories about the “south” in “gone south.” It may simply be a reference to the map-making convention that “south” on a map equals “down,” so to “go south” would be to head for the metaphorical bottom.

 World Wide Words: Going south
The origins of go west — meaning to die, perish, or disappear — seems anciently to be connected with the direction of the setting sun, symbolising the end of the day and so figuratively the end of one’s life.
Contrast that with go south, which is first recorded in the 1970s, though it was uncommon until the beginning of the 1990s, after which it experienced explosive growth.
Conversely, the American view of the south being connected with things that are unpleasant (at least to those living in the north of the country) may result from mental associations with slaves being sold down the river or to cultural echoes of the Civil War.
