The extension starts from Shanghai Railway Station and runs to Gongfu Xincun Station, extending the total length of Metro Line 1 to 32.5 kilometers with 25 stations in all.
On the first day of the initial use of the extension line, hundreds of thousands of residents lined up to ride the line.
According to Shanghai Metro Operation Co Ltd, more than 1,000 passengers had made their way through Pengpu Xincun Station by 7am, one hour after the line opened.

The construction is the first case in the country in which automobiles will run on the top deck of the viaduct, trains will run on the second deck and the ground is open for automobiles and other vehicles, according to Cai Yifeng, deputy chief engineer from the Shanghai Urban Comprehensive Transportation Plan Research Institute.
From December 28 on, trains to Gongfu Xincun Station will run at intervals of 12 minutes in peak hours and the interval will be cut to nine minutes before May 1 next year.

After every three trains from Xinzhuang to Shanghai Railway Station and return, the forth train will move on until it reach the new terminal station - Gongfu Xincun and return.
It means, some passengers need to get off the train at Shanghai Railway Station and wait on the platform until the right train (one out of four) arrives and continue their journey.
It also means in contrast of 2-3 minutes interval of Metro Line #1, the train intervals for the metro station between Shanghai Railway Station and Gongfu Xincun will be 8-12 minutes.

Personally I think Songjiang district is more beautiful than that in central city at least there is wonderful landscape in my campus!!
Also, the #1 subway has been extended to Gongfu Xincun.
