Goobox is designed to be a CD player and it happens to also rip CDs.
Sven: goobox has been ignored for Desktop as at the time it was proposed SJ was more mature and distributed.
Goobox does this nicely for me and the user interface is more compact and more polished.

Bug 6155 - Put gnome-cd in it's own package   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
But since Goobox replaces both Sound-jucier and Gnome-cd, it seems like a good dep for ubuntu-desktop.
goobox is not in the GNOME 2.10 modules, sound-juicer is: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2005-February/msg00027.html for hoary the default player will stay gnome-media.
Having both goobox and gnome-media doesn't waste a lot of space and is not an issue.

 Re: Goobox and CDDB
There is an according bug report (#290106) for goobox 0.6.0, >> but it has been marked as resolved.

(unfortunately there is no such button in goobox nor in gnome-cd) 2.

 Music Updates at sil’s babbling
Sound Juicer doesn’t have quality settings, so I used GooBox to rip to MP3 at 192k.
I use Easytag to update the tags, specifically the year and genre.
GooBox unfortunately doesn’t capture the year from CDDB when it rips, and the genre’s are never right.

no offence, ross, but goobox has far more polished ui for ripping/listening combination...
I want a number of bug reports detailing why Goobox is better and what Sound Juicer has to do improve.
Goobox can download cd cover art, hope SJ can do the same soon, see bug #309228 ;)

I hope, vorlon will accept goobox 0.9.91-1, and if not, there's already a 0.9.90-3 ready with fixes for all bugs, recorded to BTS.
If I'll backport fixes for current Sarge's Goobox bugs, it will be actually the same as new upstream version, so why don't just accept it...
Woohoo, I finally fixed a very weird bug in Goobox Debian package.

I think we need to extend the use of .desktop files for these two special cases   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
I think we need to extend the use of.desktop files for this two special cases.
In gnome two things come to mind: 1) gnome-volume-manager: (medium management) I don't want to fill in manually "goobox -d %d" I just want to select goobox for handling my audio cd's.
(users don't do goobox --help and see what command they need!) so maybe a solution is to put in goobox.deskop medium=audio medium-play=goobox -d %d gnome-volume-manager only shows in the play audio cd listbox the programs that have Volume=audio in their.desktop file.

NEW: As of version 0.5.0 Goobox allows you to select bitrate when ripping.

(users don't do goobox --help and see > what command they need!) How about providing a goobox_play.desktop which does that out of the box, so that users don't need to fill it in manually?
