Better known as The Good Life in its native England, the much-beloved 1970s Britcom Good Neighbors wrapped up its delightful run during a fourth season, which was capped by a visit from Queen Elizabeth herself.
Their neighbors and best friends, Jerry (Paul Eddington) and Margo (Penelope Keith) Leadbetter, remain mystified at the Goods' embrace of hard living and are themselves fully committed to luxury and (especially in Margo's case) rubbing elbows with aristocracy.
Good Neighbors: The Complete Series 4 includes eight choice episodes, including "Away from It All," in which Tom and Barbara take a small vacation from their threadbare life, nervously leaving their agrarian routines in Jerry and Margo's inexperienced hands.

 The Good Life (Good Neighbors)
The Good Life took a "cute" premise and then transcended the situation comedy genre to create a show that could be, in turns, riotously funny, slyly satirical and heartwarmingly sentimental.
The comic tension was supplied by the Good's next door neighbors the Ledbetters played by the elegant Penelope Keith (To the Manor Born) and the late Paul Eddington (Yes Minister) who are still in the thick of the rat race the Goods have left behind.
After the final season of the Good Life in 1978 the cast went on to further pad their resumes with brilliant turns on telly as well as the big screen and stage.

BBC - Comedy Guide - The Good Life
In addition to a wealth of good storylines, it was the interplay between the two couples that really gave the show its appeal.
It would have been easy for the writers to use Margo's snobbery and domination of her husband to simply set up the Leadbetters in the role of villains, constantly at odds with their idealistic neighbours, but the authors were more clever than this and instead drew a real affection between the couples.
Margo and Jerry, whose marriage is apparently more conventional yet far less trusting and deep, have serious misgivings about the Goods' self-sufficiency venture, but as the show progresses they began to treat their neighbours with tolerance and warmth, and even a slight envy and a protectiveness bordering on the parental.

"The Good Life" (1975)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Trivia: In the US, this series was broadcast under the title "The Good Neighbors" to avoid confusion with the short-lived series "The Good Life" (1971), even though that show was off the air almost three years before this one began.
The opening titles were reworked by the BBC art department so that the title even includes the same flower, bird, and bee as the original.
To make things even more confusing, when the series was released on US home video, the outer box had the "Good Neighbors" title, but the shows on the tape had the "Good Life" titles (they were from the BBC masters, simply re-encoded to NTSC video).
