Foreign policy leaning on the peace agreement thus required that Finland remain outside the ideological juxtaposition and disagreements between the superpowers that were typical of the Cold War.
With the bridge-building policy - active non-alignment - and the reconciliation of economic and political interests, Kekkonen's Finland adjusted to the structural changes in Europe brought along by the détente that was typical of the later stages of the Cold War.
Paasikivi's thinking and policy thus paved the way from the policy of different blocks in the 1940s to the post-Cold War Europe, in which Finland is politically and economically integrated to the West through the EU membership.

Why is being a good neighbour not enough?
The model of good governance has to change if it is to serve businesses and governments well in supporting good planning and decision making.
Good citizens change what they do, because they can see new connections between their activities and the needs that are around them.
From fragmented, independent good neighbours, to successful, mutually dependent good citizens, the route for governance is not an easy one, but it is one that offers opportunities that we haven’t even begun to imagine.

The good news is that 84 per cent of the neighbours who responded to the survey said they had never complained about the operation.
Most of the neighbours of the intensive livestock farms were long-time rural residents (almost three quarters lived at the current location before the operation was established), but a substantial number were new residents.
About a third of the neighbours were either farmers running a smaller livestock operation or cash cropping, farm labourers (not working for the operation in question) or people working in an agriculture-related field.

The study found that for people of retirement age, neighbours also tended to be good friends with whom they socialised.
Younger people, on the other hand, tended to distinguish between neighbours and their main circle of friends and socialised much less frequently with people in the immediate vicinity, according to the report, which questioned 1,000 adults.

Guardian Unlimited Books | By genre | Review: The Good Neighbour by William Kowalski
The marriage in question is that of Francie and Colt Hart, who have been together for nine years without suspecting how bad their marriage really is. Francie considers herself a poet, despite the fact that she has written only 10 poems in the last nine years, "all of them failures of inspiration and style".
One of the great strengths of The Good Neighbour is that it brings news from a normally unsympathetic world; Kowalski takes the trouble to describe Colt's work without resorting to easy caricature.
If The Good Neighbour has a fault, it is that of being a little too charming; at the end of the novel, all the main characters face uncertain futures but it's hard to believe that happy endings aren't just over the horizon.

In essence the GNP states that signatory jurisdictions shall not provide wagering on racing to residents of other signatory jurisdictions without the permission of that signatory jurisdiction, nor solicit, market or advertise wagering without prior authorisation from that other signatory jurisdiction.
The Good Neighbour Policy shows the unity of racing and its determination to protect the communities it serves.

 Press Release - 4 November 2002
"It must be understood the Good Neighbour Policy currently exists as a bi-lateral agreement between the Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Japan Racing Association" the Australian Racing Board Chairman, Bob Charley said today.
The most important are: first, that the racing authorities in both countries agree that they will not use the other country's racing for wagering without prior consent; and, second, that both countries agree not to take bets from each others citizens.
"Having reached agreement on the GNP with the Japan Racing Association, the Chairman of the Asian Racing Federation, Hong Kong Jockey Club CEO, Dr Lawrence Wong, proposed that it should be extended to become a multi-lateral agreement supported by all member countries in the Asian Racing Federation" Mr Charley said.

HOME OWNERS HIT BY GOVT 'ONEROUS' LAND POLICY land 1 Hampshire's 'good neighbour policy' of allowing home-owners to buy small areas of school land to extend their gardens has been hit by Government rules on the sale of school land.
The policy of selling small areas of land has provided extra cash for schools and has generally helped to make for good relations with adjoining land-owners.
The School Standards Framework Act of 1998 means, however, that these small sales of land have to comply with lengthy and complex legislation designed to protect much larger areas of school playing fields from being sold and permanently lost for sports and recreational use.

Liborio Justo and Argentinian Trotskyism - RH   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
The military, led by generals Uriburu and Augustin P. Justo, removed Yrigoyen in September 1930 and implemented a policy of spending cuts which hurt the workers and the middle classes, while securing the position of the landed oligarchy by preferential trade deals with Britain.
The Radicals were never to recover from their failure in office, the oligarchy had lost the ability to manipulate a parliamentary system, and the weak and divided working class movement was unable to offer significant resistance.
The people who were likely to support such a front, and its concrete expression, which was Roosevelt’s ‘good neighbour’ policy, were conservatives such as Justo senior and the very pro-British Argentinian upper classes.
