The original club colours, claret and blue, were adopted after having to borrow kit from Aston Villa- in fact the club's very existence owes much to one Edmund Goodman who was employed at Villa and was recommended by the Villa chairman.
Many of their managers before Bert Head, except for Arthur Rowe, are just names; L. Scott, C.Spiers, G.Smith, J. Tresadern and in particular Edmund Goodman, without whom...
The original stadium, built around where the athletic stadium now stands, also hosted a number of early FA Cup Finals.

Las Vegas SUN: Oscar's dash for home
Goodman didn't even rule the Nationals out of the Vegas equation, although their stadium financing is thought to be nearing approval and baseball is reportedly close to appeasing Orioles owner Peter Angelos for moving a team so close to Baltimore.
Goodman slipped out of a dark stretch limousine in front of the Hilton Hotel at 2 p.m., adjusted a flickering mini "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign on his pin-striped lapel and yelled "Isn't this nice?" to a woman who paused to look at the flamboyant quartet.
Goodman said Sunday that he and Brown then had further private conversations with Reinsdorf, MLB president Bob DuPuy and another baseball executive, and Logan and other 51s officials, after that dinner.

Las Vegas SUN: Columnist Ron Kantowski: Cashman showing its age
Well, Mayor Goodman could say it, by arranging for the financing of a new stadium that would serve as the centerpiece of that 61-acre parcel downtown that should be developed by the time we put a man on Mars or the Cubs win the pennant, whichever comes first.
That happened to be the same year that Civic Stadium in Portland was given a $38.5 million facelift and renamed PGE Park.
When it opened in 1972, the Albuquerque Sports Stadium, like Cashman Field, was considered state of the art.

Stymied by the repeated refusal of Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman to build a new stadium for his Triple-A team, Las Vegas 51s President Don Logan says his players could soon be rounding the bases and heading for a home in Henderson.
University of Nevada, Las Vegas Professor of Public Administration Bill Thompson, who analyzes gaming and tourism, says that when considering the funding of a new stadium for the 51s, it is important to remember their market.
Although Hansen says he could see the 51s getting a rebate of their property tax for relocating in a redevelopment area, he thinks the city's financing of a stadium for the team would be unlikely.

Rickey aimed to show Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman a shining example of how a Triple-A team and a modern facility can be a source of vibrancy, and pride, for a city.
Over a 2 1/2-year span as a catcher in the major leagues, in which he hit.239 in 120 games, Rickey never entered a stadium on a Sunday.
Rickey called it the shattering of a myth, that there were aspects -- practical, philosophical, humanitarian, Constitutional, religious and capitalistic -- that stretched far beyond the chalk lines of a diamond or the complexion of a team.
