The name "Google" is a play on the word "Googol", which was coined by Milton Sirotta, nine-year-old nephew of U.S. mathematician Edward Kasner in 1938, to refer to the number represented by 1 followed by one hundred zeros.
Google is known for its relaxed corporate culture, reminiscent of the Dot-com boom.
However, Google provides mechanisms for requesting that caching be disabled (which Google respects; it also honors the robots.txt file which is another mechanism that allows operators of a website to request that part or all of their site not be included in search engine results).

Google Base launched last Tuesday as a new repository of information for distribution across Google's network of sites including Google search, Froogle, and Google Local.
Google Base allows you to enter your full content directly into Google where you can see your content's status in real-time and add additional metadata such as the location of the post and an associated logo.
Google Base allows much more control over the content submission process but it's a good idea to output both to make sure you are doing everything you can to drive the most traffic to your site.

Google Desktop Search is only for Windows XP or Windows 2000 users -- no news on a Mac version from Google, sorry.

That said, I think Google Base could fail if a) they are unable to control fraud (also a problem on the edge) and 2) the UI just plains sucks.
Google will crash all the classifieds and other listing services ONLY because it has larger user base and more money to support it.

Google will have to break down roadblocks, though, before Google Base poses a meaningful threat to eBay or any other rivals.
