 Google Pages launches
Google released the first public beta of its Google Pages service Wednesday, allowing users who signed up for the service in January and February to begin creating personal websites using an easy-to-use, browser-based tool.
Google Page Creator is a Google Labs project, and will be in a testing phase for several months, Google said.

Google has brought a Web-searching paradigm to the desktop and the result is a very clunky interface.
Google does seem to have a nice thing started, but I would like to see a more native desktop-type app that takes advantage of more native desktop capabilties to make the tool more useful.

Google has improved its Google Desktop PC and Web search application by adding to it a panel that provides information from a variety of sources, the Mountain View, Calif., company announced Monday.
Google Desktop 2.0, which is in test, or beta, mode, includes a feature called Sidebar that gives users access to e-mail, news, weather, photos, stocks and syndicated Web site feeds, according to a Google press release.
Google Desktop 2.0 is available now in English only although Google promises "additional language support to follow shortly." The free application runs on Windows XP and Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 and above and can be downloaded for free from http://desktop.google.com.

I have been using the google desktop search and lookout and find them both to be useful beta apps.
I am currently using Copernic's desktop search (http://www.copernic.com), it is free, a full-featured program, and it does everything Google's desktop search does and about 500% more.
