Goondiwindi Cotton was formed in 1992 when the Coulton Family invested in a small garment manufacturing operation in Goondiwindi, which was named Goondiwindi Cotton.

Pronounced 'gun' rather than 'goon', Goondiwindi is a typical, attractive Darling Downs town which has become important because of its unique position at the junction of the Cunningham, Newell, Bruxner, Barwon and Leichhardt Highways on the border between New South Wales and Queensland.
Goondiwindi grew up in the 1840s as a riverside camp for the teamsters bringing supplies from northern New South Wales to the outlying properties in western Queensland.
This importance was greatly increased when Queensland became a separate colony in 1859 and the Macintyre River became the border.

Queensland police are today expected to apply for the extradition of a man charged in NSW over the deaths of a man and woman in Goondiwindi yesterday.
A 31 year-old man from Port Macquarie on the northern NSW coast surrendered to police in Bathurst, in central western NSW, yesterday and was later charged with the double murder.
Two children are now in protective custody after police found the bodies of their 26-year-old mother and her 21-year-old boyfriend in a car boot in bushland near Goondiwindi in south-west Queensland.

From there he was sent to Palmerville in the Queensland Goldfields in the same job and at the same salary until 1901 when he was moved to Bollon in South East Queensland in the same job and at the same salary plus 26 Pounds for his wife assistant.
Later she has moved to Goondiwindi where she married Alan Kimmorley and where they are now both buried.along with their baby daughter.

It runs parallel to the eastern coast about 300 kilometres inland, and is the main inland direct road link from Victoria to Queensland, bypassing the more congested coastal areas of New South Wales.
Unlike most highways in New South Wales, which are named after early explorers, the Newell Highway is named after the head of the Government Main Roads Department in the 1930s.
The highway crosses the New South Wales/Victoria border at the Murray River and continues south through Victoria as the Goulburn Valley Highway, and crosses the New South Wales/Queensland border just before Goondiwindi and continues north through Queensland as the Leichhardt Highway, with a branch north-east to Toowoomba as the Gore Highway.
