Near North Side, Chicago - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Goose Island is located in the Chicago River.
The island is separated from the mainland by the North Branch of the Chicago River on the west and the North Branch Canal on the east.
Labelling the island natural can be misleading since the canal (along with the turning basin at the northern end of the island) was dug for industrial use.

Goose Island Brew Pub Review by Sean Parnell
Goose Island opened its doors in 1988 to a beer-swilling public that was just itching for something better than the boredom of Budweiser, Miller Lite and Heineken even if the joint was originally part of an indoor shopping mall.
Goose Island is also popular with large gatherings of Friends of the Chicago River, Chicago Friends (meets the first Thursday of each month) and the Chicago Beer Society (also meets the first Thursday of each month).
Goose Island, as the first brewpub in Chicago, has established itself as one of the best beer bars in the city and an ale lover's Shangri-La. While Quencher's, the Map Room and Hopleaf all carry a wider selection of beer, it's tough to beat Goose Island for its brewing skill and originality.

Goose Island’s been making some headlines in recent weeks, first with reports that Anheuser Busch was looking to purchase a stake in Goose Island (reports that Hall both personally called this member of Chicagoist to refute and tackled in the comments section of our post on the subject).
When we first opened the brewery I would travel all over and stay with other brewmasters, all to be able to make beer in their plants for a week and get an idea of how they approach brewing.
The Yeungeling brewery in Pennsylvania is the oldest brewery in the country, and it’s stayed in that family for generations.

The fact that the Goose Island ales did not particularly stand out is a credit to the skill of Japan's brewers, who collectively turned in some very fine examples of what beer could taste like in a perfect world.
The Goose Island Rye Stout was also memorable for its interestingly spicy and complex flavor that's somewhat of a departure from what one normally expects from a stout.
Next door to the brewery is what they call their "Casual Restaurant," which is actually something of a German-style beer hall serving their own beers and sakes as well as a range of quite reasonable (price and quality) food.

Goose Island Brewery recently presented results of the brewery’s adoption of Pall Corporation’s Keraflux beer recovery system at the Craft Brewers Conference in San Diego, California.
The Keraflux filtration system has allowed Goose Island to realise a significant cost savings by recovering 50 to 60% of the beer that would otherwise be wasted in disposal of spent yeast.
The success that Goose Island has had with the Keraflux System is a perfect example of the increased level of efficiency that brewers of all sizes can bring to their brewing process," said Jonathan Pratt, Vice President, Pall Food and Beverage.
