Born in Scotland and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick, the 46-year old Clark is in his fifth year with the Islanders after spending four years scouting for the Bruins, the last two as Director of Scouting.
In 1987-88, he served as Mike Milbury's assistant behind the bench of the Bruins' AHL affiliate in Maine before moving up with Milbury to coach the Bruins for two seasons, including trips to the Stanley Cup Final in 1990 and the Conference Final in 1991.
Gordie and Carol Clark have two children, Ashley and Brendan.

Gordon Clark recalled: "Two years before [Hobie Alter developed commercial polyurethane foam], Dave Sweet and his brother, both surfers with a shop in Santa Monica, had found a backer in the actor Cliff Robertson," who went on to star with Sandra Dee in the first Gidget film.
Gordie had gotten interested in surfing in the early fifties when he was in the navy and stationed in Hawaii.

Gordie Clark, Coach's first All American, was with us, and so was his longtime friend and assistant coach, Dave O'Connor.
It was karaoke night in the hotel lounge, and in honor of Coach's induction, we all got up to sing Frank Sinatra's "My Way." It took some convincing, but in the end, there was Charlie belting out what I call the Italian national anthem.

The American Hockey League announced today that Gordie Clark and Kevin Dineen will serve as honorary captains at the 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic in Portland, Maine.
Gordie Clark played parts of nine seasons in the AHL, including 237 games in Portland with the Maine Mariners from 1978-83.
A two-time All-American at the University of New Hampshire, Clark joined the New York Islanders in 1996 and served as the director of hockey operations for the AHL's Eastern Conference champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers in 2001-02.
