Gosse: Province Can't Walk Away From Clearwater Layoffs   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
October 17, 2005 - Cape Breton Nova MLA Gordie Gosse says that he is unimpressed with Minister Cecil Clarke's assertion that the Hamm government has no control over Clearwater's decision to lay off forty workers in North Sydney because Clearwater is a private company.
Gosse says that the Clearwater layoffs are just another example of how successive Liberal and Tory governments have failed to defend the rights of local fishing communities and processors.
The failure of the Liberal government in Nova Scotia to negotiate a similar agreement now means that fish landed in Cape Breton can legitimately be trucked to Newfoundland for processing.
