Gordon Richard England (Born 1938) is an American businessman who (as of 2005) serves as the United States Secretary of the Navy and U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense (Acting) while he awaits his confirmation to the latter role for which he has been nominated by U.S. President George W. Bush.
England was a controversial choice for Secretary of the Navy due to his lack of any military service experience and his long career in the defense industry including his most recent appointment as Executive Vice President of General Dynamics Corporation.
England was appointed to head the review that was conducted in secret by a panel consisting of three military officers to whom prisoners were given the chance to provide facts to support their case for release.

Gordon derived great comfort from his family over the years, he was especially fond of his sister Emily, her death, at 16 when Gordon was 10, was a great blow to him.
Gordon never allied himself to any church, or became a member of one; he was friends with the Presbyterian chaplain, the Church of England vicars in the area, the Methodist and Baptist pastors and the Catholic priest.
Gordon was replaced in 1879, in 1880 he was appointed as the Private Secretary to the Viceroy of India.
